I wanted to ask for some advice regarding grad school…what’s the best forum for that?

Depends on the questions you wish to ask.
People telling their personal experiences? IMHO
Factual info about schools, GREs etc? GQ
Frustration venting with everyone sympathizing? MPSIMS
etc.
Depends on what you’re asking.
General Questions forum is for questions with factual, provable answers
IMHO is for asking people’s opinions, usually about personal experiences
Great Debates is for unanswerable questions
MPSIMS is for sharing thoughts, whether profound or pointless
Thus:
- “Which grad schools have the best molecular biology dept” would go in GQ if you thought there was a quantifiable, factual answer; and in IMHO if you thought there’s a range and it’s partly a matter of opinion
- “What’s life like as a grad student” would be in MPSIMS or IMHO.
- “Which graduate school has the best football team” would be in the Game Room.
Etc.
So, my suggestion is that you (1) read the forum descriptions and then (2) frame your question and make a reasonable post it to a forum. There’s no stigma or penalty for posting in the wrong forum; the moderators will just move it. No biggie.
If you are basically just looking for advice, and want people to share experiences, that would generally go in IMHO.
