I’ve a problem with a computer game for which there’s no more technical support (at least here). I suspect it’s a generic graphic issue, so I thought perhaps someone here could have some clue as to how I could solve it.
First, I can’t remember how is called in english the little arrow which move on the computer screen when you move the mouse, that you use to click on something, etc… (If someone could tell me its name, by the way…). So, I’m going to call it “the little arrow”
So, when I move the little arrow on the game screen on a particular thing, the little arrow’s shape sometimes change, and various informations appear. In this case, the game is a wargame called “people’s general” and when I move the little arrow on an ennemy unit, a little target is supposed to appear, with an estimation of the possible fight outcome if I chose to attack this unit. But the target and more important the estimation doesn’t appear now (except after I attacked and too briefly to be read). Other kinds of informations in other situations appear normally in the game when I move the little arrow.
Also, last time I played the game, one or two years ago, I had no issue at all. So, something happened meanwhile, apparently. And I still have the same graphic card.
I suspect this issue has something to do with the graphic card pilot, or with directX, or anyway is some sort of similarily generic problem, but I’m a computer illiterate. So, what a computer litterate person would do in such a situation to figure out what the problem is and solve it (apart from calling the unexisting technical support)?
Related problem : how can I find the exact name of my graphic card?
The thing you refer to is the “mouse pointer”. As to your specific problems, I’m not sure. Perhaps you can try reinstalling the game, or perhaps going through the options to see if you have the display option you want turned on.
To find the name of your graphics card, you can typically find it in your device manager (windows) under ‘display’.
Are you using the same video card setting? (Screen resolution, color depth). Also, what version of DirectX do you have installed, and what version does the game require?
Senor Beef,
Thanks for the pointer’s name. And yes, I tried to reinstall the game twice. Without any result.
Brutus,
I don’t know if I use the exact same settings for resolution and color than when I played this game for the first time. I tried several settings since yesterday, though, and it doesn’t change a thing. The game requires DirectX 6.0 and installs it. But I currently use directX 8
