Great actors or actresses you despise for being married to someone you hate.

Let me explain this.

I absolutely love Gary Oldman. I think he’s a fantastic actor in everything I’ve seen him in, he’s got loads of charisma, he’s just an amazingly talented guy.

On the other hand, I absolutely hate Uma Thurman. She’s bland, she’s got no personality (except perhaps in the better parts of Pulp Fiction) and she couldn’t act her way out of a Burger King. Did I mention she’s ugly as hell? (okay, that’s not a bad thing in itself. But for someone who’s supposed to portray beautiful women that’s just silly)

Recently, I discovered that Oldman and Thurman used to be married. And while I know that this has no bearing on Oldman’s acting skills, I seem to have lost some of my respect for him, just because he was married to Thurman! Do any of you feel the same way about other actors, actresses, singers… whatever?

Well, I don’t hate Jennifer Anniston, but I hate seeing what a star she is just because she’s married to Brad Pitt, who I like as an actor.

I’ve never seen an episode of Friends, but I think she was a “star” long before she met Brad. I’ve liked Jennifer in the few movies I’ve seen her in, mainly Office Space and The Good Girl. People like her, and she seems like a very likeable person (from what I know). People like Brad, he’s definitely a very likable person. From what I’ve seen, she’s a good actress who’s willing to dumpy up for a good role. Brad is a terrific actor, and is definitely willing to dumpy up. They’re an absolutely fantastic couple, so it’s no wonder their star power shines even brighter together. I hope they stay together forever and have lots of babies. The odds are against them though.

I couldn’t stand Nicole Kidman (the person, not the actress) while she was married to Tom Cruise. Even though it was pretty clear she wasn’t a $cientologist herself, she defended it. I just thought, bimbo babe who’s willing to put up with a man who believes in space aliens and “body thetans.” Whatta maroon. When they split I did mental cartwheels in celebration, thinking that she would finally come into her own. I was right.

What did Drew Barrymore ever see in Tom Green?

and what the hell was Tom Arnold thinking.

Use to like James Brolin…

“Respect” is too strong a word, but I lost a little something of my crush on Antonio Banderas when he married Melanie Griffith. She has always struck me as a bit brainless. And not that I am a huge moralist, but it bothers me that he left his wife for her.

What the hell was Roseanne thinking?

I never quite forgave Jill Ireland for leaving David McCallum and marrying Charles Bronson.

I’ve always wondered why the hell a beautiful, talented woman like Whitney Houston would marry such a POS like Bobby Brown.

Come to think of it I couldn’t stand her as an actress starting with Days of Thunder when she got her injection of Tom. I admired her very much in Dead Calm and when she was in Days of Thunder as Tom’s prize (and then married him!) I lost all interest in her and figured Dead Calm was a fluke. After that they did some dumb period piece that my Tom-loving friend dragged me to and I didn’t get any enjoyment out of her performance at all. I was too distracted by the suckingness. But when To Die For came out she was good in it and I remembered why I liked her. Since then it’s been all up hill. A little bit of it might have been that the association with Tom took away some of her ‘one of the girls’ appeal but, really, it seemed like being stuck to Tom’s side dragged her down in her choice of roles. Maybe it was just that she needed her energy for having kids and then got back on her career but I can’t help but think it was some of Tom’s sucking getting on her.

Except for Burton, I always had trouble with Liz Taylor’s choices.

Eddie Fisher?

There’s a great line from somewhere about some gal being compared with Liz in that you didn’t have to marry her to have sex with her. Sopranos, maybe.

Not in the acting field: but my opinion of Lucinda Lambton plummeted when she married Perry Worsthorne.

Angelina and Billy Bob. The hell?

ooooh, touchy subject. My girlfriend is a huge New Kids On The Block fan, and to this very day she still goes to shows to see Joey McIntyre perform. Her room has pictures of him all over it. She’s 23 but she is still loyal to her teen idol. When he announced that he was engaged, her whole world fell apart.

Wolfian

Not to worry. Latest I heard Angelina dumped Billy Bob (or vice versa) and opted for Kiefer Sutherland. Now there’s a switch.

I’m curious as to where Whitney would be today if she hadn’t hooked up with that piece of trash.

My apologies to trash for the comparison.

I have to second Banderas and Griffith. She looks really, really weird, too.

I’m a Buffy geek. And I like SMG as an actress there, though I don’t think she’s the best of the cast. I used to think she was an OK actress and as a person - not very interesting. Her marrying Freddie Prinze Jr. sealed my opinion about her. He must be one of the most stupid people working in Hollywood.

OTOH, the more I see of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe, the more I respect them both. Their marriage has to some extent enhanced my view of them.

Harrison Ford hooking up with Calista Flockhart was major weird.

I hate Tim Robbins for being married to Susan Sarandon.
Conversely, I loathe Susan Sarandon for being married to Tim Robbins.

Zeldar- now my respect for Kiefer has plummeted.

Are you really sure about that? I missed that tidbit on the Celeb Gossip front!
