Great live albums from the nineties

RUSH

Different Stages 1998

Pearl Jam - Live On Two Legshas been one of my favorite live albums since high school.

Skips a lot of the most famous songs (No Jeremy, Alive, or Even Flow), but it’s better for it, IMO.

Rock Spectacle - Bare Naked Ladies.

This came along at a time I had given up hope for live albums. Just rockin’.

Since several of the ones I would have offered have been named, I present for your consideration Ani DiFranco, Living In Clip.

P-Funk All-Stars - Live at the Beverly Theater

Recorded in 1983, but not released until 1990.

The only live George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic live album I’ve ever heard that actually captures what they do live: improvise, jam, play extended medleys, and with excitement and energy. They are having fun, and it comes through in the recording.

Every other live album I’ve ever heard from any iteration of these bands has always been basically a spot-on playing of the studio version, with crowd noise. Who cares?!

Metallica’s S&M Album.

Live Metallica with a full orchestra? Yes, please! My favorite album of all time.
