Great Moments In Stupidity

Near where I live is a block of condominiums. They appear to be well-maintained, and they are modern-looking (I live in a typical 1950’s-era “bedroom community” which has exactly one building which pre-dates World War II) The condos are also right across the street from the local mall. There’s just one thing that they lack: parking. There is none to be found. There are no spaces in front of the condos. None behind them. None next to or in-between the condos (not even alleyways, just some sidewalks!) The people who live in the condos have to park in the mall’s parking lot, and cross a busy street any time they want to get to their cars.

Recently, I saw an add for these condos. They’re practically giving those things away! But noone will touch them because there’s no parking. What idiot would design condos and make no provisions for cars?

Anyone else have any Great Moments In Stupidity?

A couple of state office buildings (forgot which department) in Tallahassee were built with air conditioning, but no heat. Believe it or not, it can get a bit durned cold in the Panhandle.

On a similar note, I remember reading about a government building in India (legislative, I think) that was designed without any drinking fountains. Evidently no one thought about that part til after it was completed.

I can’t imagine why anyone would build a condo without parking - especially in the '50s, when everything was about cars cars cars. Drive-in theaters, drive-in restaurants, drive drive drive… but, apparently, not park…

One of the guys in my trailer park built a shed without a door. He nailed up all the walls from the inside and then had to have somebody cut a door for him after he had them nailed up. I kid you not. He had a window… but not a door.

They just built a bunch of condos here in Austin where the driveway leads straight into a busy intersection right by a highway on/off ramp. Great thinking, eh?

In Perryville, they built condos in a flood zone. The highwater marks on the heights are about even with the second floor windowsills…
