Background:

Now that Britain has thrown off the shackles of the most evil and corrupt political party since records began*, one of the things our new government is doing as a matter of priority is putting forward a “Great Repeal Bill”, whose aim is to throw out so much off the illiberal controlling legislation that was put in place by the last one - but not only that. The aim is to remove a huge clump of laws that are getting in people’s way as they try to go about their legitimate pursuit of happiness. I believe, but am not 100% certain**, that you can contribute towards the proposed bill here: http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Great_Repeal_Bill - obviously at the moment it’s a bit of a mess, and has some nutty things in it, although I find the idea of abolishing France to be rather amusing.

So - the debate. What laws would you like to see repealed? I don’t see any reason why this needs to be UK centric, even though the bill is. And is this bill a good idea? The latter I vote yes… the former, well I need to make quite a big list!

**That was definitely the correct place to go when the idea was first suggested a couple of years ago; I assume that the government will setup an official website shortly

I’m a USAan so I don’t have a dog in this fight, but how can you have an opinion about whether the bill is a good idea before you know what’s in it? Perhaps some nut’ll put in a repeal of the laws against murder or theft or whatever.

It looks like a bunch of antinomian nonsense conceived by Lutherans who don’t understand that laws exist for a reason & assume that general good feelings are enough to achieve a just society. In short, the sort of thing very popular in the USA in general & the raison d’etre of the Liberal Democrats. It looks like a bunch of LibDem nonsense. I suppose I should have capitalized “liberal.”
