Kepler, Johannes : 1
Maxwell, James Clerk : 1
Volta, Alessandro : 1
Mendeleev, Dmitri : 1-1
Newton, Isaac: : 0-1

ETA: Color me sad. I think Lavoisier definitely belongs in the Top Twenty.

As just indicated, Lavoisier, Rutherford, Salk and Vesalius are evicted from Scientists’ Island.

Round Seven is over. Round Eight will end about 11:40 pm EST on Monday, January 29.
For Round Eight, you may cast seven Evict (elimination) votes and one Keep vote, or six Evicts and two Keeps.

49. Lyell, Charles - geology
50. Dirac, Paul - physics

Eliminate:

Bohr
Heisenberg
Kepler
Maxwell
Planck
Volta

Keep:

Leeuwenhoek
Mendeleev

You know the list is down to the elite when you decide that you can’t justify keeping one of your own nominations (Planck, in my case) around any longer.

Evict:
Leeuwenhoek
Euclid
Linnaeus
Pasteur
Volta
Eratosthenes
Heisenberg

Keep:
Maxwell

And wanted to note that Ben Franklin staying around so long was, imo, undeserved.

The Round will end in 2 hours. At present the vote totals are:
Leeuwenhoek, Antonie v. : 4-1
Kepler, Johannes : 2
Eratosthenes : 2
Heisenberg, Werner : 2
Volta, Alessandro : 2

Bohr, Niels : 1
Boyle, Robert : 1
Euclid : 1
Euler, Leonhard : 1
Linnaeus, Carolus : 1
Pasteur, Louis : 1
Planck, Max : 1
Maxwell, James Clerk : 1-1
Mendeleev, Dmitri : 1-1
Newton, Isaac: : 0-1

If these are the final votes, the first five scientists listed above may be evicted.

Participation is low, so I’ve reached into votes from six days ago to get the four names with 2 votes above. However, reaching only back six days the vote on Leeuwenhoek is just 2-1, not 4-1. To get the count up to 4-1, I have to reach all the way back to a player (Quartz) who hasn’t participated since January 13.

During the 2 hours remaining I’ll listen to arguments about whether delinquent Quartz’s vote should be allowed to eliminate the First Microbiologist! Then I’ll … flip a coin?

Evict:

Kepler, Johannes
Eratosthenes
Bohr, Niels
Boyle, Robert
Planck, Max
Maxwell, James Clerk
Mendeleev, Dmitri

Keep:

Leeuwenhoek, Antonie v

Scientists with two or more Evict votes and no Keeps are eliminated:

[del]Bohr, Niels[/del]
[del]Eratosthenes[/del]
[del]Heisenberg, Werner[/del]
[del]Planck, Max[/del]
[del]Volta, Alessandro[/del]

Round Eight is over. Round Nine will end about 11:40 pm EST on Wednesday, January 31.
For Round Nine, votes will be REDUCED. You may cast five Evict (elimination) votes and one Keep vote, or four Evicts and two Keeps.

Fifteen Scientists remain in contention:

50. Dirac, Paul - physics

Keep:

Newton, Sir Isaac

Evict:

Boyle, Robert
Euler, Leonard
Linnaeus, Carolus
Maxwell, James C.
Mendeleev, Dmitri

Keep: Maxwell (seriously, he’s already been getting evict votes?)

Evict:
Leeuwenhoek
Boyle
Euler
Euclid
Linnaeus

Evict:

Linnaeus
Leeuwenhoek
Mendeleev
Euler
Keep:

Maxwell

Maxwell has got to remain at least as long as Faraday

Evict:

Boyle
Euler
Maxwell
Pasteur

Keep:

Leeuwenhoek
Linnaeus

Had I been given the option to retain three, I’d have kept Mendeleev and spared Pasteur, who will likely hang around anyway.

With an hour to go, the vote count is
Euler, Leonhard : 4
Leeuwenhoek, Antonie v. : 5-1
Boyle, Robert : 3

Linnaeus, Carolus : 3-1
Mendeleev, Dmitri : 2-0
Euclid : 1
Pasteur, Louis : 1
Maxwell, James Clerk : 2-2
Newton, Isaac: : 0-1

If these counts do not change, the first three listed will be evicted.
Three of the votes to Evict Van Leeuwenhoek are very old votes, placed by players who’ve not posted for a while. However even if these old votes are given only half value, Van Leeuwenhoek would still have a net of 2½ votes so … off the island he goes.

Three Scientists are evicted:
[del]Euler, Leonhard[/del]
[del]Boyle, Robert[/del]
[del]Leeuwenhoek, Antonie van[/del]

Round Nine is over. Round Ten will end about 11:40 pm EST on Friday, February 2.

Top Twelve, eh?

Evict:

Archimedes
Faraday
Maxwell
Mendeleev
Keep:

Newton

Evict:
Euclid
Linnaeus
Mendeleev
Pasteur

Keep:
Maxwell

Evict:

Euclid
Faraday
Maxwell
Pasteur

Keep:

Linnaeus

Wishing I could retain Mendeleev as well, but I have more interest in biology than chemistry, so it’s time for Dmitri to go.
