Greatest Scientists: Elimination Game

Current votes are:
Mendeleev, Dmitri : 3
Euclid : 2
Faraday, Michael : 2
Pasteur, Louis : 2

Archimedes : 1
Linnaeus, Carolus : 2-1
Maxwell, James Clerk : 2-2
Newton, Isaac: : 0-1
If this count is unchanged at end-of-round three hours from now, Mendeleev will be evicted, and I intend to use my dictatorial tie-breaking power to also evict one of those with 2 eviction votes.

Mendeleev and Euclid have been Evicted from Scientists’ Island. We must now gradually prune the Top Ten list, ultimately to select the Greatest Scientist Ever.

**Round Ten is over. Round Eleven will end about 11:40 pm EST on Monday, February 5.
For Round Eleven you may cast three Evict (elimination) votes and one Keep vote.

The order in which you list the evictions may be used for tie-breaking. For example, if your strongest want is to eliminate Einstein, then Faraday, and Galileo is your distant 3rd choice for elimination; then you’d list the three in that order: Einstein, Faraday, Galileo.**

The Top Ten Scientists are:
Archimedes - math, physics
Copernicus, Nicolas - astronomy
Darwin, Charles - biology
Einstein, Albert - physics
Faraday, Michael - electromagnetism, etc.
Galileo - physics, astronomy, etc.
Linnaeus, Carolus - botany, taxonomy
Maxwell, James Clerk - physics
Newton, Sir Isaac - math, physics
Pasteur, Louis - chemistry, biology

Mendel has already been Evicted. (He went out as #39.)

Sorry.

Evict:
Linnaeus
Copernicus
Pasteur

Keep:
Galileo

Top vote-getters are
Linnaeus : 4-1
Pasteur : 4
Faraday : 2
Although he has a Keep vote, Linnaeus appears very high on the lists of those voting to evict.

If there’s no change in the next 3½ hours, then Linnaeus and Pasteur will be ousted.

Evict:

Maxwell
Faraday
Pasteur

Keep:

Linnaeus (although he appears to be on the way out regardless)

Louis Pasteur and Carolus Linnaeus are evicted from the Island

**Round Eleven is over. To build suspense we’ll hold Round Twelve open until Friday morning, February 9.
For Round Eleven you may cast three Evict (elimination) votes and one Keep vote.

The order in which you list the evictions will be used for tie-breaking.
For example, if your strongest want is to eliminate Einstein, then Faraday, and Galileo is your distant 3rd choice for elimination; then you’d list the three in that order: Einstein, Faraday, Galileo.**

The Eight remaining Scientists are a very prestigious company, perhaps the canonical such assembly! Here, with only the ordering of the Final Eight to determine, are the Fifty Greatest Scientists:

Darwin, Charles - biology
Einstein, Albert - physics
Faraday, Michael - electromagnetism, etc.
Galileo - physics, astronomy, etc.
Maxwell, James Clerk - physics

I’ve changed my mind. Round Twelve will end today as originally scheduled.

The present voting is:
Faraday : 4
Archimedes : 4

Copernicus : 2
Maxwell : 2-1
In the absence of new votes, Faraday will go off as #8 (due to tie-breaking), Archimedes will go off as #7. We’ll be down to the Final Six for Round 13.

Faraday and Archimedes are Evicted from Scientists’ Island.
