People are governed by many emotions, two of the most primal of which are greed and compassion. Greed is what makes us want something for ourselves, compassion is our want to do good for no reason other than that it is good. Unfortunately, greed can very often overwhelm compassion, as is the case with many of the corporate giants who govern the world today. “Appetite comes with eating”, and this is all too true of greed. The more that someone has, the more they want, until the point that someone can be so powerful, that they have ceased to feel compassion. Of course compassion can be surpressed by forces outside the human, too…such as fear.
But while greed can be a bad thing, it should not be totally surpressed. Because it is greed that makes us want something for ourselves, and a person without this want would sink into themself, become a defeatist, and never strive for a goal such as a job or something elswe to their advantage. Thus, such a person would never desire someone else, and therefore would not procreate, creating more of the species. The trick is to maintain a healthy and equal balance between greed and comapssion.
