Thing is, MOST of the NFL’s players are black guys from the South. Green Bay may be a lovely place filled with wonderful people, but it’s STILL both an incredible change from what the typical young black guy from Louisiana or Alabama is used to AND the opposite of what he was dreaming about.

He may LEARN to love it once he’s there, but that doesn’t mean he’s thrilled to hear he’s been drafted by or traded to the Packers.

Agreed. I know that the top three states for producing NFL players are Florida, Texas, and California (not sure of the ranking). (ETA: I see someone else looked it up!)

I’m not sure if this is still the case, but I know that, in the past, a lot of the black Packers didn’t live full-time in the Green Bay area – some lived in Milwaukee, others lived back in their home states (though they all would have been renting apartments or houses in GB during the season). But, with the growth of the off-season conditioning and workout programs which all NFL teams now institute, I don’t know if it’s as easy for players to do that now.

Actually, while most NFL players are black, most are not from the South, unless you count Texas and Florida.kenobi.

Why wouldn’t TX and FL count as “south”?
