Green Chri$tma$ is 50!

Stan Freberg’s classic satire of Christmas advertising was produced in 1958. It’s still relevant.

A blog has a well-researched article about it, including ads of the day, an MP3 of the routine, script, and newspaper and magazine columns in reaction to the sketch.

If you’ve never heard it before, it’s a must.

It’s all good, but my favorite spot in the sketch is this.

“Sayyyy, Mother, as sure as there’s an X in Christmas,…”

I’ll have to check my Freberg box set, but if I remember the liner notes correctly, it says they got this on take 1.

Good stuff. Thanks for the reminder.

I read the thread title as “Green Chri$tma$ is $50.” I thought; “My, that’s expensive. No wonder they don’t put it in the Christmas rotation on KOST.”
