Today, on the way to work, there were four guys spraying the grass on South Michigan Ave. What was strange was that they were spraying it green. So, two questions, firstly, is this some kind of fertiliser, just a dye or a combination of the two? Secondly, WTF ???, I mean the grass looks a little straw-coloured, OK, but is it really worth spending money on this? It’s the middle of winter, do people really expect to see the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in downtown Chiago?
I’ve seen them do the same thing here…I think it’s a combination of both…

It’s seed and ground up newspapers saturated with water.
The recycled paper retains water to help the seed germinate, discourages birds from eating the seed, and prevents the seed from washing or blowing away before it puts down roots.
The mixture can be tinted any color. Green being the obvious choice (but why kelley and not olive?).
