Thanks, guys! Yep, I’ve ventured into the Pit and I have observed and interacted with these Tourettish drunken Pit-dwellers of which ye speak…they’re very odd. Are there a species of Dopers that spend 100% of their time in the Pit? And are there some of you who never venture there?

Most folks spend 90% of their time in one forum.
Myself, for example: I am mostly in the Pit, I have spurts of spending some time in GD, and I randomly and unpredictably go to GQ, CS, IMHO, and MPSIMS. Comments on Cecil, and on Staff Reports - I almost never post in. I hit ATMB once in a while just because I have got some idea of the answers to questions people ask.
Just find what suits you - there’s something here for every type of personality!
Sarah Woodruff, that ain’t your real name is it? If it is and you decide against using your real name on the boards, can I suggest Fritz Schnackenpfefferhausen as your new anonymous nickname?

Thanks for moving it, Dex – we don’t like getting ATMB all … messy … by doing the full initiation there – we’ve found the mix of Jell-O and splashings from the calamari vat makes the trebuchet slide around too much, and once that happens, its accuracy gets shot ( 
) to hell, and then the goat gets overexcited, and, well, you can imagine.

Just FYI, the Pit is where the interesting debates happen. I don’t swear (much - I reserve it for effect) or drink, and I spend most of my time in the Pit. Debating in a forum that allows nearly anything is much more challenging than debating somewhere where there are all these rules and stuff and nobody getting called an asshat. In other words, it’s more like real life debates. Good rule of thumb anywhere on the Dope - attack the argument, not the person if you want to have a debate that doesn’t deteriorate into name-calling.
Although the thread titles could be a little more creative.
