It had been a few decades since I’d seen *Spellbound, *so I decided to re-watch it. It’s an excellent film, if you can get over all the cringeworthy sexism and Freudian Analysis bullshit. But what totally blew me away was how smokin’ hot Gregory Peck was, at the age of only 29. I had been accustomed to seeing him in his later roles, and totally forgot how he looked that young. I think I actually became “spellbound” during some scenes. Here’s the trailer.
Oh, and his co-star, a young Ingrid Bergman, was quite fetching as well. And the theme music is one of the best.
From time to time there are threads on here about movies that you always watch when you stumble over them flipping around the channels on TV, no matter how many times you’ve seen them. One of a very few like that for me is The Bravados. I’m not a huge Peck fan, but he is a total badass in that one.
I am an avid used of StumbleUpon, and I occasionally hit one of those wonderful black and white portrait of the old stars and I am always struck about how wonderful they looked - well groomed and dressed in amazing formal fashions [or tuxes and such for themen] and compare them to idiots like the Kardashians and whatever boy brats are popular now and think how much poorer the new generation is for stars.
This is one of my particular soapboxes. There just aren’t mature, sexy, sophisticated male movie stars any more. There’s no shortage of “pretty boys,” but I can’t think of any male star of today who at the age of 29 has the stature, poise, presence, *gravitas *of Gregory Peck at that age, or other stars like William Holden, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper.
[This has the potential to start a hijack. Sorry.]
