Who was that playing the epileptic lawyer? I know I know that face, but I can’t remember who she is or where I know her from. She was uncredited on the show (even though she is a well-known actress, except by me, apparently). I can’t find her on the IMDB listing of the episode, either.
Drynda - That’s the woman who played Dianne Grad in Chicago Hope, among other things. She’s Jayne Brook.

Sorry Brynda. Preview Post is our friend.

My bad. She was listed in the credits, but when I went to IMDB with my list of possibles, I forgot her. Thanks to both of you. StG, you are right that I know her from Chicago Hope.
I recognized her voice almost immediately, and it didn’t take me too long to figure out I remembered her as ‘doctor abby’ from the second season of sportsnight… the headshrinker who Dan can’t stop flirting with.
I had the same reaction - she looked familiar but didn’t know who she was. I think I recognize her from either Boston Legal or John Doe.
Brian
Good for you – it took me half the damn episode to figure it out.

I recognized her right away. The one that’s still driving me crazy (also not listed in the episode credits on IMDB) is the guy who played the violinist. Oh WAIT, I think he was a judge on The Practice. Can anyone tell me his name?
Oooh, he was Milliken on 24, season 3.
(spoilers for both 24 and this past week’s GA)
He died of heart problems on that show too, didnt he??
And he was on Allie McBeal, too. YES! Thank you. It was bugging me to try to place him.
Funny, he was also a judge on Ally McBeal, which is where I remembered him from. Jayne Brook drove me nuts for a few minutes, until I remembered Chicago Hope.
When did Chris O’Donnell shake off the bland and get hot?
Yeah, I barely recognized Chris O’Donnell.
I saw his name in the credits and kept waiting for him to show up - I checked at epguides yesterday and realized he was the hot vet. What did Meredith call him - Dreamy McVet or something?
And Derek was so crushed to see her there!
Another in the ‘Who knew Chris O’Donnell would end up hot?’ camp. Of course, I thought the same thing about McDreamy when he was in teen movies… so apparently the people casting this show are better at that game than I am.
BTW, who was the other patient (the mom[sup]7[/sup])? She looked familiar. And why did Alex have such a problem with her choosing to get her tubes tied? It wasn’t clear to me why a doctor would care that she’s not telling her husband. (Her priest, obviously. Her psychologist or marriage counselor, maybe. But her doctor? STFW?)
That was the woman who played Kim on Yes, Dear.
Yeah, I thought it was odd and out-of-character for Alex to be that way. Seems like he’d be more in the “Stop having so many freaking kids” camp.
Jayne Brook. She was in Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter Is Dead. Love 'er.
I actually recognized her more from that short-lived series, Cold Feet (seeing as how I never watched Yes, Dear, that might explain it). Her name is Jean Louisa Kelly, btw.
Well, I actually thought it was an interesting reaction for him to have. A few possible reasons why:
- maybe Alex was raised catholic and had some sympathy for the husband wanting to follow catholic teachings.
- He obviously doesn’t like addison and resented having to work in OB/GYN surgery, so maybe he was just taking the opposite reaction when he realized that Addison was sympathetic.
- As a guy’s guy, he felt it was his duty to get all righteously upset when women were making secret plans and leaving a man, (the husband,) entirely out of the loop.
shrugs
And I just thought it was a simple matter of being aghast at the violation of medical ethics in performing an elective surgery “off the record,” that the hospital can’t bill for and if there are complications from it, could be sued out the whazoo over. I also thought he was right and I wonder what, if any, repercussions her actions will have on her character.
