Christina Yang is a doctor. She is 100% certain she doesn’t want children. She is sexually active.
Why didn’t she have her tubes tied a long time ago? I thought she was brilliant?I?
As a doctor, perhaps she feels that having her tubes tied is more invasive and carries more risk than the multitude of other options.
I’ve never followed the show though so for all I know, she went on to get pregnant a hundred times,
If you’re a young, unmarried female, doctors generally won’t do voluntary permanent sterilization, no matter how much you ask. Sure, at 22 you say you don’t want kids; what happens in 5 years when you meet the greatest guy ever and want to have his babies? A girl I knew in high school saw the childbirth film in biology class and said, “No way, uh uh, never gonna happen to me.” Today she has four kids. Things change, and they don’t want to cut off one possible choice if it’s not necessary.
If you’re older, have a kid or two, or there’s some life threatening reason to yank the ovaries or something, then they’ll go ahead with it. But doctors are disinclined to go along with “babies, ew!” when you’re young and unattached.
Recovery time from the surgery would also have interfered in her schedule. God forbid she miss a surgery due to hers.
She could have gotten an Essure thingy. All I can think is that it’s just plot complications - she keeps getting pregnant, and she keeps getting abortions and having intense discussion about it.
Also, tv likes to pretend that there are no Childfree by Choice people in the world - you might think you don’t want kids, but you’ll change your mind when you come to your senses. :rolleyes: I will be pleasantly surprised if they don’t take that route with Christina.
The actress who plays her is leaving the show next season.
