Grey's Anatomy season 7 (2010) (open spoilers!)

Off the Map isn’t so much a spin-off as what you might call an off-shoot. Thus far, at least, there have been no shared characters, and in fact, several of the lead and guest actors on OtM were lead or guest actors on GA playing totally different characters, several of whom are now dead (as is often the case with guest actors on medical shows).

kushiel, it was established earlier in the season that Avery had a crush on little Grey, but he didn’t have a chance because she was still hung up on Mark. He didn’t only get to know her because of Mark; he took advantage of Mark’s request to play his own hand with Lexie instead. Personally, I’m glad of it; Mark is a man-child going through a mid-life crisis, who, apparently like Hunt, doesn’t seem to get that not every woman really wants children deep down. And I think Arizona is bearing up well under the circumstances. She’s entitled to be a little cranky.

He’s liked her for a while (you don’t remember the scenes from earlier in the season when he tried to hit on her before she left Mark again?), so that’s not going to happen. And asking someone to get their ex to talk to him about her feelings, after which said someone refused to report what she said, is hardly grounds for dumping them. Now, had he went behind her back and told Mark everything she’d said, that would make your case.

But Hunt is an idiot. At first I was under the impression that they were both idiots and never had the talk about kids, but it became clear that he married her knowing that she wasn’t interested in motherhood…apparently it’s something women can “out grow” so he figured she couldn’t mean it. Idiot.

To be fair, elfkin, some people’s attitudes on having children do change over time. I know one couple who have split up because while neither wanted children when they married, the husband developed too strong a wish for them to be denied, while the wife’s view didn’t change.

Whether this could be described as “out-growing” a lack of desire for children, though, is pretty iffy. And in any case, marrying someone on the assumption that they would change in that respect is, as you say, idiotic. But then, Grey’s Anatomy seems to often make their characters do 180s in their attitudes with very little justification. Look at Meredith herself, who in the first few seasons would have cut off her left arm before she would have considered having kids. And (on a totally different topic) why fertility treatments for someone whose problem is not conceiving, but in carrying to term?

The great part about ensemble shows? You can always find someone you like. The bad part about ensemble shows? You don’t give a shit about half the cast. So sick of Derek and Meredith and Webber and Karev.

Anyway, I was hoping the Keppner and Stark thing would go on longer. I thought it’d be more interesting if she was attracted to him but was nervous about sex, instead of just wanting to be friends.

Enthusiastically waiting for Mark to bust a cap in Avery’s ass.

Addison is guest starring on next week’s musical episode.

God, I hate the idea of the musical episode. Unfortunately, it also appears to be covering integral parts of the various arcs, so I’ll have to watch it anyway. Will I go to hell for hoping Torres loses the baby? Because we all know that on TV dramas, any pregnant woman who has an accident loses the baby, any woman who vomits in the morning without large quantities of alcohol the previous night is pregnant, and anyone who ever takes a prescription pain reliever outside of a hospital (and most of those in one) is an addict.

Did anyone else catch Marina Sirtis guest starring last night? Without the glam makeup from ST:TNG, the years have not been terribly kind. She used to be so beautiful!.

There was a big time gap in between the past two episodes. Callie was way more preggers this time and was having her shower. I’m starting to think we might get a preemie arc. They can tie in Meredith wondering if she wants to go through the possibility of something like this, Cristina can watch this little baby fight for its life and decide she isn’t as childfree as she thought, Karev can be sympathetic tough guy to impress that other chick, Little Grey might let Sloane turn to her for comfort because she’s not totally a bitch…

Can you tell I write fanfic?

Subverted on last night’s episode

I write ff too, and as soon as I saw the preview and remembered that earlier in the episode they said she was 23 weeks along - the current cutoff for viability - my mind yelled “micro-preemie arc!” You know, like Benton’s kid on ER.

Yes, but it was a conscious subversion. Anyone who watches this kind of show thought she was probably pregnant the moment she started vomiting.

But she IS attracted to him, and VERY nervous about sex. Everyone kept laughing at her and making crude sex comments when she said they were going to watch a movie at his apartment - didn’t you see her face? She just SAID to him that she wanted to be only friends, because she does have a hangup about sex and backed out of the date. Because she isn’t ready to go there. I think they’ll get back together and slowly grow closer, become, yeah, friends, and get into a real relationship before they do the deed… I know! What’s wrong with them that they don’t just duck into an empty room and DO IT already? Screwy, I know!

That one went over my head. I did genuinely think she was just thinking of him as a friend because the way she was talking about him to Karev made it seem like she was entirely unaware Stark liked her. It wasn’t her being ‘oh please, we hang out, we’re not at that stage yet’ it was her being ‘wait, he’s attracted to me?!’.

I don’t really watch this much anymore but I catch it on occasion when the other shows I watch are on repeat or I can’t get the channel I want to come in. So I watched last week and the whole time Callie and Arizona were in the car and Arizona kept looking at Callie for long periods of time my brain would scream “look at the road, idiot!”. I had seen the previews for the musical episode so I knew what was going to happen, still I’d rather she be driving carefully and still have an accident.

Then the previews for next week show Arizona saying something to the effect that the truck came out of nowhere, no bitch you were not watching the road. So I hope that the reason they have her being so stupid is because they plan on having Callie blame her for the accident and whatever happens to the baby.

I didn’t know what was coming, and I was still mentally screaming that. Damn! It’s like when people open refrigerator doors and don’t shut them. I can’t concentrate on the story because my brain is screaming “shut the refrigerator!!!”

It was kind of refreshing to see there are consequences to that behavior which we see all the time in tv and film, so that’s why it will bug me even more if they brush it off and not make some consequences for Arizona because of her carelessness.

Me too! I’m glad there was an accident because whenever characters driving don’t watch the road I always assume it’s the setup to an accident and then there never is one.

Can anyone in this cast lipsync? Seriously?

Also, I’m sorry, but all I can see is Lucius Vorenus singing Snow Patrol.

Avery, stop being a doucheface. OMG YOU DOUCHEFACE

I am now awaiting the crossover storyline where Derek and Meredith visit Addison.

Impressed by the accurate baby.

So much green screen.

Was EVERY doctor in that hospital in on that surgery? How was it they all managed to drop everything at the same time and cram into the operating room en masse?

I’m glad at least SOME people out there still watch this show. Every friend I had that watched it quit on me. I dont know why, but i’m still stuck on it.

I disliked 90% of the musical part of the episode. It was just so distracting from the emotional pull I like about that show. Especially that ridiculous sexy song between all the couples. Ew. I did, however, like the beginning and ending Cali songs. She sounded like it was really her singing and it sounded good… and I thought those songs blended well with the actual show.

Also… the whole thing was very reminiscent of when Meredith almost died.

One more thing to like about Yang - she didn’t sing.

Cali’s actress is actually putting out an album soon, so it is really her singing.
