Grey's Anatomy season 7 (2010) (open spoilers!)

Supposedly everyone did their own singing, which is probably why only a few people sang solos and the rest were part of a chorus. Sara Ramirez (Callie) is a singer and has sung on Broadway. They may have had some filler voices during the group sings or just autotuned the hell out of the non-singers.

Since it was supposed to be happening in Callie’s head it didn’t seem to fit for people to be singing when she wasn’t around. Sure she could have imagined what was happening with other people but then none of those scenes should have been part of the actual continuity.

Besides the fact that there was singing at all, this was my biggest objection. Since she was imagining the singing, there should have only been singing in her presence.

I think more shows should do musical episodes. I find them fun.

What the living fuck was this episode? I’m only partway through and I was going to wait until I finished, but ARGH SO MAD

Owen bitching out Karev for squealing? What the fuck? Well, Owen, you didn’t need to tell the Chief either! Why is Karev the only one getting flamed for saying something? Karev does one moral, honest thing in his life and he suffers for it. No wonder he’s an asshole most of the time.

However, I am pleased to see Ms. Mary Sue Grey getting her comeuppance. Meredith always comes out squeaky clean and a hero, at least this time she’s paying for something stupid she did.

I only watch off and on, but I don’t get the Meredith love - her voice-over is like nails on a chalkboard, and her character is…smarmy? Annoying? Bland? Stupid? Can’t quite put my finger on it.

I posted this in the abortion thread, but it should probably be in here - I loved that Christina doesn’t want the baby instead of being all gaga for a baby like every single other character on television. I didn’t like her husband trying to talk her into doing something she didn’t want to do, but their discussions were great - there’s a reason why childfree people shouldn’t be with people who want kids. I’m afraid that the show is going to go the same way tv shows always go, though - she’ll decide to have the baby because being childfree is a pathology that can be fixed by meeting the right guy or seeing your baybee in the ultrasound.

I liked Meredith’s husband being so mad at her, too - you can’t just wreck his drug study consequence-free! Her excuses were so lame - if you don’t understand what’s going on with a drug study, you shouldn’t be involved with one.

The fizzled panic about having hundreds of patients coming in was kind of heartbreaking, especially when they had to divvy up the families and go tell them their loved one was dead. Ouch.

This study has bugged me from the first episode they showed it, because it was inherently flawed. The doctor(s) involved should never have known whether what they were giving was placebo or test substance; it’s what’s called “double blind.” The study was simply begging for exactly this kind of thing to happen, and I would be very surprised if the FDA accepted the study as presented on the program. Despite the show’s attempt to simplify Alzheimer’s testing to whether or not the patient remembers three little words from a minute earlier in the conversation, the fact is that dementia testing and rating is highly subjective, and the doctor’s expectations play heavily into their evaluation of a patient. So you would never have a single-blind study in something like this if it could possibly be avoided, because confirmation bias is a very strong thing.

So, yes, what Meredith did was wrong, but what Derek did was what they always have him do on this show, which is to set things up so that they’re likely to go hideously wrong, then when it does go wrong, blow up entirely and blame Meredith or whatever other agent happens to screw up his inherently flawed setup.

Owen acted like a jerk, both with respect to Christina and to Alex, although given what a schmuck Alex tends to be (despite being a competent pedes surgeon), I can’t be outraged about the latter. I find the whole plot thread of Owen’s having believed that with time and “maturity,” Christina would realize that she wanted children after all to be ridiculous. No one but an idiot could believe that of Yang.

The things this finale did right were the downed plane business that Cat Whisperer mentioned (I loved how the other families waited with the mother of the one little girl), and the fact that Kepner got the Chief Resident slot. Kepner is the only one with both the administrative skills and the surgical skills to deserve the slot. Now McBiscuit needs to get over his hissy fit and actually try dating her for a while.

I really liked this episode. It was all about the downside of love. Losing your loved ones in several different ways. I really like Meridith trying to make up for the damage her mother’s love affair did to Richard and Adele’s marriage. And Richard seems to understand why she did it. And I hope Cristina has the abortion. They wimped out the last time she got pregnant (and why hasn’t she gotten fixed so this doesn’t happen again). I hope someone has a serious birth control talk with her.

The show DID try to have a serious birth control talk earlier on - with all of them. This is when George was a character, got VD from “Syph Nurse”, and it spread through the hospital workers, because none of these brilliant doctors thought to use condoms. Everybody was ordered to stand in line for testing, and then there was a hilarious how-to-put-on-a-condom demonstration by some old lady with a condom and a banana. The impatient frustration on Christina’s face, being forced to watch this, was a marvel! :stuck_out_tongue:

Alex didn’t do the moral thing: the moral thing to do would have been to report her immediately, not just when he stood something to gain from the timing. It pisses me off that he didn’t get into more trouble, because someone in would have in real life if they’d simply sat on that knowledge and only told when it presented a good opportunity to make someone else look bad/themselves better by comparison.

I didn’t think he said it directly to get Meredith in trouble, I just thought he said it to Owen because he was drunk and pissed off about the Africa job and lashed out. He could have told any secret.
