Grilling, barbequeing, and smoking.

I am ready to buy myself a new barbeque grill. What I’m looking for is something that can do the Big Three: grill, smoke, and barbeque. If it can use both propane and charcoal it would be a huge bonus but I don’t know if that is possible or widely available if it is possible. After doing a search to see if this has come up before I see that almost all grilling-related threads devolve into either an arguement between charcoal & gas or between the difference between grilling & barbequeing. I respect the huge amount of passion and expertise many dopers have previously expressed on this subject but what I’m looking for here is the one grill that does it all. I have only found this one but it seems a little small. I’m turning to you to help me find my next grill.

Brinkmann makes an all-in-one. I’ve got a Brinkmann smoker (not an all-in-one) and highly recommend it.

If you want something that does all 3, you pretty much have to go with charcoal. While you could barbeque on a propane model, I fail to see what advantage this would have over an oven. And you certainly can’t smoke in one.

I had a thread about smoking a while ago with a link to my grill. Here’s the link:

Does everything: smoking, grilling, and barbequeing. Love it.

Oooh, that looks exactly like what I’m looking to get.

So I guess there is no such beast as a grill that can use both charcoal and gas? I like gas’ ability to heat up quickly for a quick dinner, and to be able to adjust the heat with the twist of a knob. Alas, I also like the flavor of smoked and charcoal grilled meat but that isn’t always practical after work when all you want is a quick dinner.

How about this one?

Here’s a better picture:

Shame about the price, though.

That one doesn’t use gas to cook with. It is only gas ignition. Brinkmann has a few all-in-ones (see my link above). Weber also makes a gas assist ignition model, but like the other listed isn’t gas cooking.

My father has a grill that uses both charcoal and propane to cook with. I’ve seen them on Good Eats as well.

I bought one of the holland grills. After going thru several brands, I think this is the best. In addition to your demands, it can steam stuff as well (The inside is stainless steel, you can fill it with water/liquid-smoke and let 'er rip. A drain valve on the bottom will let the liquid out when you’re done). Personally, I would say it’s adequate as a smoker (gotta put in trays of wet wood, and experiment awhile to get everything right), but great at everything else. Plus, it’s aluminum/stainless and doesn’t rust.
