It started last night. Right in the middle of ICQ with 2 people my connection to the ICQ server dropped. I couldn’t surf anywhere etc.
It happened to me again today two times now.
I called Earthlink and they are blaming AOL’s software. Well, I called my client’s California office, a completely different set up (they are on a frame relay with Pac Bell) and they were having problems too.
I used my AOL dial-up and it too was freaking out. I called AOL to ask if they knew of any problems and it turns out that the phone number I was using (one number off one of the Earthlink dial ups) was experiencing problems.
Now, what gets me is that things will be running fine then in the middle of a connection everything just stops but I am still connected. Earthlink is blaming the AOL software, AOL admitted that they were having problems with a specific phone number and my client’s office out of state is having problems.
So what gives? I am a tech chick but there are times when my brain is taxed and I don’t have the problem solving skills to figure things out.
I am here at my client’s office trying to put in a new hub and a switch.
Well, one of the $900 3Com hubs went out on me!!! I can’t get the hub to recognise the switch or the old hub it was connected to.
We knew this hub was having problems but this musta done it.
Thank God I was replacing one of the Lynksys hubs that only has one port out so everyone will have a chance to get on the network in the morning!
Oh and to top that off. Whoever put the 3Com hub in the rack tightened the damn screw so tight I can’t get the damn thing out of there so I can call 3Com with the serial number and have it replaced!
Maybe I’ve got your terms mixed up but hubs and switch’s don’t like each other (actually the hub is too stupid to like or dislike anything…the switch gets pissed when a hub is out there).
I HATE when people tighten the screws too tight. Had a tape drive in a rack yesterday that had a stripped screw. Talk about a PAIN (that was definitely worth a GRRRRRRR!!!).
Sorry…I wasn’t saying they WON’T work together. Just that they don’t like each other very well so you have to keep an eye on a few extra things (specifically the port configuration on the switch).
