I know. I was speculating too.
As my father’s father would have said, “It’s a cross between a bull bitch and a window shutter.”
My guess would be Cairn Terrier and German Shepherd cross.
I do believe that they are now offering a genetics test for dogs like this.
Here it is.
Wow. What a great looking dog! Looks a bit like my Pyr Shep, so I’m biased.
I’m seeing definate dwarfism in the front; with the thick fur and upright ears I see Corgi. Small ears for a Corgi, and wrong colors makes me but something else smaller in there - Eskie, Pomeranian, etc.
With a 12" withers height, do you have local flyball or agility groups you can show him off to?
Thanks all. I know about the DNA tests but as he’s a rescue dog that I’ll have for just a short time I’ll leave that up to whoever adopts him if they care. The fact that he’s a cute pup is all that really matters at this point. I had just thought maybe somebody would say he’s a Transylvanian Griffinfinch or some other breed that I’d never heard of. Purebred American Mutt will do him just fine.
He reminds me of a dog my old housemates had- he was a cross of German shepherd and basset hound. He looked like a shepherd but his legs were only 4 inches long! He could torpedo right under the coffee table.
That is a cute cute dog.
I used to tell people that our dogs* were “Park Road Terriers,” because the lady we adopted them from lived off Park Road. After a while, though, Samwise demonstrated a great affinity for going right back to bed after taking care of his bodily needs first thing in the morning, so I changed his breed to “Laybackdown Retriever.”
- Since we’re separated now, I guess they’re pretty much her dogs now.
He’s adorable, and my guess would be a pomeranian/terrier cross. The coat color, texture, leg feathering and tail are very typey for a pom cross, the head looks terrier to me, I have seen a lot of pom/terrier crosses and that’s just my take on him. If so, the excitability and distraction will slow down somewhere around two and four years of age.
Here is an example of an orange sable pomeranian. When they relax the tail it is carried just like Jack’s. I know a pom/min pin cross which has a coat very much the same as Jack’s, but no photo.
Whatever he is, he’s super cute!
