They don’t see migrants as human beings. This is a direct through-line from slavery – like slavers in the Confederacy, they don’t really see certain groups as fully human. That’s the only way someone can purposefully treat others like this. Just despicable.
That was probably one of the nicest things Abbot could have done for them. They were taken to shelters by kind and compassionate people who gave them food and clothing. They will be assisted on their way to their family members AND they are not in the racist, migrant hating Texas they saw while visiting.
So, yeah, Abbot is a douche but he did these people a favor if you look at through a pot fog.
I don’t smoke, pot or anything else, but you DO have a point.
I’m sure TPTB who put the people on the plane to Martha’s Vineyard are still shocked at the kindness shown to the migrants when they arrived. I know many Dopers are not religious, but this is Christmas Day, and even if those individual Vineyard residents weren’t Christians, they definitely showed Christian love to those people.
Or just regular human compassion for fucks sake. I understand it’s christmas today, but do you think compassion and empathy aren’t common human traits, regardless of religious beliefs? Seriously, Christians need to get right the fuck over themselves.
The Feds should arrest the bus drivers for human trafficking. That’ll get Abbott’s attention.

Sheesh, the first group to greet the caravan, with food and water-- the one that came up through South American and Mexico to the US border despite Trump’s objections was HIAS, the Hebrew Immigration Aid Society. It’s a US organization that was founded to help Jewish immigrants from eastern Europe to the US, but as that need faded, its mission became assisting any immigrants to the US, although it has focused mainly on refugees in the last couple of decades.
I think Abbott thought, well, what would Jesus do with these poor migrants in need? And, Jesus said unto him, “Fuck those migrants, just bus them somewhere.”
Looking him up on Google, apparently he’s a pretty devout Catholic. So, maybe he called the pope to find out what to do with those folks, and the pope saith “Fuck those dirty migrants. They probably carry diseases or something. It’s Christmas – you don’t want their cooties on you – ship their sorry asses over to DC or some other place with tons of shitlibs.”
And so it was done. Amen.

I make a monthly donation to HIAS, and once in a while, respond to special calls for donations. They made an exception to their mission to help people settling in the US by sending money earmarked in a special campaign to similar organizations in countries receiving refugees from Ukraine.
I wanted to be part of the group that met the caravan, but I couldn’t work it out with my son’s schedule and DH’s work schedule. I thought about taking the boychik with me, but decided not to. I did send money, though.
You would think that people who whine about how their holiday is disrespected, whose myth is centered on there being no room at the inn for travelers far from home, could at least on that one night behave as decent humans. How many people read the Christmas story last night then nodded in agreement with this story today? It’s shameful.
