Guidelines for posting on transgender issues on the SDMB

Now that we have a policy regarding the use of the term cis, will follow up policies be forthcoming on the use of the terms boom and bah?

I’ll see myself out.

Not if we see you first.

How do we determine the gender of a poster? Unlike another message board I’m on, people’s names aren’t written in blue or pink.

Are you asking about this?

Look at the last sentence.

Several posters here have discussed their gender. I’m a dude. If you decide to call me “she” in this thread, after I just said this, it’s gonna be questionable. If you go to another thread tomorrow and call me “princess,” I’ll think you’re up to some sort of fuckery. But if some other poster says, in another thread, “LHOD mentioned the kind of fantasy books she likes, so I’d also recommend this one to her,” they’re really unlikely to run up against any sort of problem.

LHOD is correct.

The line between “SCIENCE!” and “too hot to handle” is very blurry. Possibly non-existent.

In what way is this true?

Folks, let’s not get sidetracked into a general discussion of transgender issues. The point of leaving this thread open was to discuss the guidelines. Since no major issues have come to light, I’m closing this thread. If you want to discuss science vs. too hot to handle with respect to transgenderism or anything else, feel free to open a new thread.
