Just wondering what other people use as a guiding philosopy, or motto ? I have two:
If you can make another smile, you have made the world a better place.
And,
The only true, and lasting form of wealth is the friendship of good people. A person with good friends is a wealthy person.
I know they sound kind of hokey, but they work for me. What works for you?
Mine are:
‘Display some Fucking Adaptability Soldier!’
and
‘If you can’t say something nice, go talk to the really annoying person down in admin.’
Heh. No, I’m just kidding. Sort of.

I’ve always had a fond spot in my heart for the chorus to this wonderful marching song, from the first moment I’d ran across it:
Get a bloody move on,
Have some bloody sense,
Learn the bloody art of
Self de-bloody-fense!
Try bellowing it, in appropriate accent, when feeling glum. You’ll see what I mean.
As a serious answer, the Four Noble Truths wrap it up nicely for me.
Mine’s basically “Think, how would you feel if this happened to you?”
On a more frivolous note “Never date another phsyicist, even if they’re really cute”.
