Guild Wars 2 general discussion

Yeah happy people are busy playing.

I was on and there were 2 other BDLers on. I said hello and nobody responded. Keep the guild chat on…

Not sure if that was directed at me, or a general comment, but: is there a way to separate out Guild chat from other channels? I get a constant scrolling of stuff in my main (default) chat window, and if I happen to be in combat, things will scroll off without my reading within 20 seconds. So, you may well have said hello, but if I don’t glance there every few seconds, I’ll miss it.

Interestingly, I find the general chat MUCH more useful (even entertaining and enlightening) than any other MMO I have been in. There is almost always some sort of discussion going on where some useful bit of info comes by every minute or so. For that reason, I don’t want to just shut off the general chat, but if I can isolate Guild chat so that it isn’t mixed in, that would be great.

There’s a way to do it (I know because I have Guild, Party, Say and Whisper in a tab which I keep as my primary), but I don’t remember the exact details. Something like create a new tab, then edit which channels go to it.

My trouble is, I get so engrossed in the game, I simply don’t see what goes in the chat tab. I have it set to timestamp each message, and once I saw I “hi” in guild chat. And I first noticed it over a half hour after it was typed. So if it seems like I’m ignoring you, it’s probably that I’m busy doing something and missed you.

TBH, I pay little attention to the chat panel. For one, it’s relatively smaller (I think) than in most MMOs I’ve played, and I don’t notice it. So if I was on, I apologize, I didn’t see the chat. Is guild chat on by default?

Joe

It helps to turn off the /map chat. Then there isn’t so much (stupid) content that it makes the guild chat and whispers scroll off the window.

I got a Norn Ranger up to level 40… and now I’ve kind of lost interest in the game. I suspect it’s because I like advancing- I like getting new skills and abilities. And in GW2, new abilities seem to be few and far between, especially at the later levels. Sure, I could go back and pick up the earlier abilities, but I’d probably never use them.

I’m not a huge fan of PvP, and I’m not in a guild. I suspect that this game is, in the long term, not for me. Sure is pretty, though.

@Lightnin:It sounds like you’re talking about the slot skills. Have you visited your trainer to purchase your manuals and unlock the traiting system? Traits add much greater depth to your gameplay.

However, I got bored with my Norn ranger at about 50. She’s taking a break at 58 for awhile, while I get my mesmer going.

I don’t know about the long term potential of the game, but I’m having lots of fun doing each zone in sequence.

And just to note, it’s missing at least one area (the Syvlari 1-15 area, right between the 15-25 area and City in the lower left corner of the yellow square). I’m at level 50 and I’m only 25% of the completion done. (Though I’ve cleared pretty much every starting area on the 5 separate characters I all got up to level 20 deciding which one to play).

I’m feeling much the same. Never been an MMO person; I always enjoyed either a strong story/character RPG (like say, Dragon Age) or character buildering (Diablo 2). The character building falls off pretty sharply once you unlock the last skill slots at 30~40ish. Yeah, you still get trait points, but the traits are all passive and somewhat small (ooh, 10% more damage for one weapon type!) and you only get to make a choice every 10 points.

Right now I’m having fun exploring and trying to find pretty armor pieces for my character, once I 100% the area and get the armor I want I doubt I’ll really touch this game anymore. Not bad… that will be a LOT of time. Still, as an MMO which is supposed to be constantly played, I suppose that’s a bit of letdown.

They’re not designing the game to be constantly played, which is why they’ve left out the endgame gear grind. They want you to log in because there’s fun to be had, not because you feel obligated to get x daily tokens for y tier gear. If you take a break and come back later when there’s new content, they’re ok with that. There’s no sub fee after all, so there’s no reason to feel married to the game. It’s not a typical MMO.

I finally got the ‘Been There, Done That’ title. That is some tough sledding. I’m glad I had the chance to map out the WvW areas when our server was pretty much owning WvW.

I now have the first piece to craft a legendary weapon, just hundreds of more hours to get the rest of the stuff now…

Be excited. Be very excited. Holiday events were always great in Guild Wars. The Mad King was always fun for halloween. I can not wait to see how this event will play out. FTR, it will be required to finish the monthly achievement.

Yeah, I loved the festivals and events in GW1, and I plan to participate fully. I’m looking forward to whatever they come up with.

Here’s a 4-minute preview done by PCGamer: No plot spoilers, just some of the goodies

Anyone know what time the Halloween stuff will start today? It just says October 22, wondering if it’s active now or noon PST or later on or…?

There seems to be an issue with the halloween event. It doesn’t look like it will be happening today. Unless they get it in by midnight in Seattle.

I just got kicked off and forced to patch. Maybe it’s the fix?

It is a game update and the event…Finally.

Completing the daily achievement set granted a Jug of Liquid Karma in addition to the Mystic Coin. At level 80, it gave me 4500 karma.

Completing the monthly awarded the regular 20 mystic coins, a 25-use Black Lion salvaging kit (100% chance to salvage runes), and 10 Jugs of Liquid Karma. It also involved eating a boat load of candy corn. I am going to go be sick now.

Also, being under the effects of sugar-crash (from eating all the candy) was not a good thing for WvW.
