Guild Wars 2 general discussion

While you can rep for BDL on any server you play on, you’ll only earn influence for the BDL instance on that particular server. So earning BDL influence on, say, Sanctum of Rall will not add to the influence pool for BDL on Northern Shiverpeaks. Likewise, when the Shiverpeaks BDL buys a guild bank, it’s specific only to that server. You can chat and group up for anything but PvP though!

So I wouldn’t be any help [to Suburban] getting the guild a bank by joining on a different server?

Ok, I transfered myself to the Northern Shiverpeaks server.

My main toon: Johannika

I’m now at the last mission ‘Victory or Death’. I am going to do it with a bunch of guildies but I have been told, and confirmed that the reward for the last mission is bugged. It seems that everyone who has opened the exotic loot bag is getting merchant fodder, mid level crap instead of level 80 rares and exotics.

We are going to do the mission and NOT open the rewards until the bug is fixed. Anet does know about it but is slow in fixing it for some reason. Of course there are still other bugs that are annoying as well.

It’s good to see the new members in the guild.

But the bad news is the guild bank I’ve been building is on Tarnished Coast. Should we give up that, or give up the progress in Northern Shiverpeaks? Or not care?

I’ve always been on Tarnished Coast (I seem to recall there were no openings on Northern Shiverpeaks when I started, so I followed Pleonast). I’m OK with changing servers (assuming it is free at this point); I’d hate for us to be split up.

I’m only a 5-15 hours/week player, so my vote doesn’t count for much.

Right now you can not access a guild bank across servers. I do not know if that will change in the future. Right now changing worlds is free. So everyone could transfer to where the guild bank is being built. Of course things may be accessible across servers eventually, when they add in guild halls.

As the person who started the guild to begin with (which makes my opinion .076311% more important than all y’all’s  )…I have no problem relocating to Tarnished Coast, since the folks over there have gained about 3 times as much Infuence as those of us on Northern Shiverpeaks.

I had actually thought that Pleonast had transferred over to NP some time back, until he told me otherwise the other night…

FTR, I won’t change servers since I am firmly set up on Shiverpeaks. But I will keep one or maybe 2 characters in BDL.

Some huge changes came in the last update. While you can no longer kill bosses and get dungeon rewards, they all come at the end of the dungeon, they have scaled the dungeons to appropriate levels. We burned through Ascalon Catacombs 3 times in a little over an hour last night. Where it used to be hard for a level 80 group to do, it is now easier for the most part. Bosses and other legendary enemies are still a bit longer to fight.

Is this on explore mode? I sure hope so. The last time I did a dungeon on explore mode, I came away trying to figure out where the fun of it was. It was just “do a miniscule amount of damage, die, come running back from the waypoint, rinse & repeat.”

I’m all for dungeons having some challenge, but this just simply wasn’t fun. It wasn’t a matter of learning the strategy or having the right skills up or teamwork; it was just die over and over and over again, and hope the boss didn’t reset.

And that first boss in AC? The Lieutenant? I hate that guy. Yeah, I get it, when he raises his arm you have to dodge, but jeez, have him say something or come up with some other way you can tell when you need to dodge because at least a quarter of the time it’s IMPOSSIBLE to see him put his arm up because there’s a spell effect or a bunch of characters in the way or <gasp> I happened to look down to see if one of my skills was available. Then BANG! I’m pulled to him and he kills me in one shot. That’s simply not fun.

I was intending to, but after several nights (and being West coast, it was way past peak time) of not being able to, I gave up trying. I have no problem with switching, I just don’t want stuff built so far to get lost unless that’s our collective choice.

I finally did Victory or Death. It is pretty good and the cut scenes are, wow. The sound was a bit bugged but over all not too bad. Got a gold helm for mission completion and salvaged a glob of ecto out of it. The story line rewards were not great. The Alpha siege golem blueprints will be fun to bust out in WvW. The other items were 3 level 80 greens. 2 of which could not be used on my character if I wanted to.

I actually got great rewards for map completion in Cursed Shores. I got 2 exotics and 40 orichalcum ore.

So I was doing one of the Orrian personal story missions with Trahearne with him droning on with his boring voice (you’d think they’d get somebody better for such a central character, his voice “acting” puts me to sleep every time even if he is doing a supposedly inspirational speech or whatever) about ancient Orrian burial customs, which is about as tedious as these things come, and it’s already been 25 minutes of this and Risen killing, when suddenly the game decides I’m not paying enough attention and has a few second hiccup, disconnecting me. I log right back in and of course the story mission has completely reset.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

… time to do it all again, yay. Or maybe not - I’ve heard the personal story missions end in a stupid way so this could be a good place to quit. :frowning:

It isn’t perfect, but it is better than what had been happening before the update. At first there was no challenge once you got on the airship but that has changed…

Also, there were 3 or 4 storyline missions that I had to re-do because of buggy instances.

Got this and played for the first time yesterday. I am an Elementalist. As best as I can tell, combat is basically spamming my spells at things but I note that I can also hold weapons. Not sure what those do or if they effect the damage of my spells. Also not clear on how new abilities get selected. They seem to show up on their own on my bar. I read the online manual and it wasn’t much help and there was no tutorial as far as i know (unless I somehow skipped it accidentally).

I do like the character creation though and so far it seems pretty fun I just wish I knew what I was doing.

When in the game, hit “H”.

You’ll get a screen that shows your weapon skills.

It will show what skills (when “unlocked”) you’ll have if using a staff, for example. (For an elementalist, this is also modified by which “element” you are “attuned” to.) Check out the dagger skill line. It shows what three skills come with dagger in the main hand, and what the two skills (in the number 4 & 5 hotbar slots) are available with a dagger in the off hand.

Some stuff, like an item called a focus, can only be used in the off hand.

To “unlock” a weapons attack skills, you got to use the weapon, and earn experience points with it. You’ll see a yellow/gold overlay on the hotbar buttons, moving left to right a little bit as you gain experience. At higher levels, when the mobs are worth more XP, you’ll see faster/bigger unlock movements.

But if you look at your weapons skill page (“H”), you can preview what those skills will be. Mousing over the hotbar prior to unlocks don’t bring you any tooltip info.

Also on the “H” page, you can see two additional entries below the word “weapon”. you can “buy” additional spell/skills with bonus skill points you can earn while questing on the map (look for the blue chevron locations). These can be placed by you in hot bar slots 6 thru 9. The “traits” points are earned 1 per level after level 10, and you can select some stat of yours to buff, like a bonus to power.

I’m now on my third character (necromancer, ranger, and now warrior) - not out of displeasure with any, but I’m trying out a variety of professions just for fun. So far, I’m having a blast.

Before creating a warrior, I had considered a guardian, on the theory that guardians have some abilities that buff/heal groups fairly well. Whether they do or not doesn’t matter; what I came to suspect, based on my experience and my reading, is this: in public play, helping others has no tangible benefit.

My idea was to create a character with better-than-average support abilities, such as area-of-effect healing, buffing and curing; then just concentrate on working the public events rather than running all over the place. But then I realized that, unlike some MMOs, I wouldn’t get any experience points or loot from doing this.

Now, in a dungeon or guild event or other focused soiree doing these things have benefits in that your tribe gets to the goal faster or in better shape. But in public events, there doesn’t seem to be any distinct advantage for me to do any healing, buffing, or condition removal, and to the extent that doing any of those things prevents me from doing damage in the same time-frame, they actually work against my self-interest. If I don’t do damage, I don’t get per-kill XP or qualify for loot, period.

I don’t want it to be this way, but that’s the way the game seems to be structured. Am I wrong? I really want to be wrong.

No idea if healing and other support counts towards gold medal for events, but for loot and kill xp you’ll need to actually damage the enemies, yes. I’m not aware of any builds that have enough powerful support abilities to allow you to spend all your time helping, though. I’m assuming they did it for a reason, so there would be no “healers”.

For a warrior there’s one cool, useful and xp-granting support thing you can do once you get elite skills - get the elite warbanner and drop it on top of a pile of corpses. They all instantly rez and you get the rez xp for every target. At my level if I can find a big corpse pile, I can easily net a few thousand xp and in addition to that all those dead NPCs or players are now back in the fight.

embarassed face

I think I’ve been using that wrong, then.

Does that banner only rez the folks who were dead at the instant it was planted, or does that effect last throughout the life of the banner?

It only does the rez the first time you use it, and that’s all. Even if you grab it and re-plant it, it doesn’t do the AE-rez again. The other buffs it gives pulse for the duration.
