I’ve got one of these: yamaha bb200 - Bing
but don’t know how to play it. I bought it off a “down-on-his-luck” strung-out skinny blond guy.

BTW … that little Line 6 is the balls. It has many, many effects to choose from. I can link a from a selection of distortion effects with a selection of phaser effects with a selection of delay effects. I’ve got four banks of presets on 32 channels (I guess that’s how you’d put it), and you can edit the effects in pretty deep detail. There’s also a bank of cabinet emulators but I generally don’t fuck with them. I let the Front Man do the work.
But my favorite feature is the looper. I’ve honed my scales pretty sharp just by looping progressions and practicing over the top. Got a couple of songs organized with the thing too. I wish I had discovered loopers earlier.
The Boss G10 multi-fx pedal I had was a monster. Some songs I made was possible only with that pedal.
Sorry if it’s a sore point, but can’t do what? Jam with a drummer? Start with a metronome! They are nothing like a drummer because they keep a steady beat (Ba-boom ching! Sorry). But you can practice staying in time, and work to keep it going for a minute or three.
At this point I play with a drummer by starting a familiar groove, cycling through it a couple of times, and then exploring a bit. If the drummer and I are enjoying the same sounds, it can be fun.
My Tele has .12’s on it and is 1" deep at the nut. Built for muscling through big grooves for a long time ![]()
I’m sorry, I should have been more clear. No, I’m disabled by age and disabilities. I’ve played since the late 60s and I’m 67 years old now. Years of heavy lifting had taken a toll and Arthritis doesn’t help much either.
I do ok with injections and Vicodin but never pain free. Such is life.
Ah, man, I feel ya. Sorry. Trust me, I will be rockin’ out for you tonight and tomorrow!! Put on Led Zeppelin’s Trampled Under Foot and imagine locking into that chug with a Bonzo-loving drummer. It will be happening.
Thanks man.
I’d prefer Grand Funk Railroad and Blue Oyster Cult.

Cool; I’ll see what I can do
LOL, I love LZ though.
It’s all good. When it’s me and a drummer, no bassist, I’m kinda holding down both jobs. As a result, I never can tell what grooves end up being best-suited to that approach. Trampled Under Foot - oh man, yes. Wanton Song - meh.
I trotted out this obscure Montrose groove - I Don’t Want It: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9bxLew-YnPI
Totally rocks. Fun to take places, adding little Funk #49 variations and such. Who knew?
Yeah, I remember Montrose and that’s a good song. They haven’t been around long haven’t they?
I and my friend the drummer were like two peas in a pod. In the 60s we had members come and go but we two were always together and sometimes it’s just us two out playing. We were the Brazen men.
OK, a couple of pics to get things started. My GS Mini with custom snakewood bridge pins and Petros Celtic knot truss rod cover. I also gave them the gold leaf treatment, which was more fun than I anticipated.
My son’s Tele(parts) caster we found online for $50. He levelled the frets and dressed them, added dual humbuckers, coil splitting, and a body cutout and arm bevel a la Strat. It sounds amazing! He did all the work and I pretty much supervised other than the soldering. It’s walnut stain on ash with a wipe on poly topcoat.
Finally, my Vinocaster. There’s shiraz in the stain, and 20 coats of nitro sprayed on. MIJ Tele neck and Fralin “Blues” Blade pickups, and a 4 way switch (N,B, N +B series, N+ B Parallel). I also added a phase reverse on the bridge but I will be taking it off as I don’t use it as much as I thought I would. I will post a pic of it after I put on the Bigsby later.

I saw them live with Freddie King as warm-up (“up all night/with Freddie King”), and at the time I did not know Freddie King, but now I’m amazed that I saw him on the same bill.
I just did a search and found they have a web site and are still touring. But, without Mark Farner it just isn’t Grand Funk.
LOL, I get their attention enough trying to not play too loudly with my Blackstar HT-20. If you recall, I swapped the original speaker for a Celestion V30 and it’s glorious. And troublemaking, everywhere I go.
I hear ya - probably from here ;).
Last night with drummer friend was loud. One of his kids checked in down in the basement, rocking along. I asked if he could hear us outside. He said “oh, yeah, we can hear you up the block. It’s badass!!” I’ll take it - we don’t play dad rock; there’s muscle to the groove. Only a couple of hours and done by 8pm.
SigMan, that version of Montrose lasted two albums. He had the band Gamma, too, but never really broke big. Montrose was also the debut of Sammy Hagar, so noteworthy-ish there, and also of the production team of Ted Templeman and Donn Landee. They did a lot of stuff, but most famously produced Van Halen, which has the exact same template as Montrose. And of course Sammy joined later.
Too late to edit: swampy I like the Tele (and I have the same GS-Mini). That color is great. A bit more…crimson?..vs the classic Gibson SG raw meat dark red I did my other home built Tele in. Love that color guitar. And since mine has Gibson features like a short scale and korina body, the color adds to the hybrid vibe.
Without Mark, Don or Mel there ain’t no Grand Funk. The three together was magic. ![]()
Stop nitpicking!
Okay, so no BOC or GFR. Lots of AC/DC (Long Way to the Top was epic; Sin City, If You Want Blood, Girls Got Rhythm, etc). some Red Hot Chili Peppers (Higher Ground), a little Bad Company and Free. I do this Pseudo Who thing where I fake the sound of Pete’s synths on Won’t Get Fooled before uncorking a huge guitar chord or three. All just so fun - I tried Stones and more greasy grooves, but he wanted big beats with his elbows up. Zep’s Rock and Roll was huge. His early '70’s Traynor amp though a Bogner 2x12 loaded with couple of Celestions - oh man oh man. So responsive and perfect-sounding.
I love my Tele. Broke my A since I played on it a couple of hours with my other friend. I am rough on strings. My drummer yesterday is a successful, platinum-albums-produced pro. He’s always been my pinch-myself bandmate. About halfway through, he said “how do you describe your playing? ‘Meat and potatoes?’ Man, I miss those meat and potatoes.” Very, very cool.
