That really sucks. I’ve been a fan since I picked up “See The Light” on vinyl and I’ve particularly enjoyed his recent early jazz recordings.
I’ve also been a regular listener to his radio show, “My Kinda Jazz”, since I first discovered it a couple of years ago. For those who are interested, the final broadcast is airing tonight at 9:00pm on Jazz.FM 91.1
It’s odd. I knew he was born with a childhood disease that took his eyesight, but I never realized that it was a form of retina cancer that had a 50-50 chance of recurring later on.
To be honest it always bugged me how eyesight related songs seemed to be the singles I always heard. I saw him live though and there’s no doubt he was a great. Taken too young, for sure.
