Jeff Healey's "My Kinda Jazz" is back in reruns.

I wanted to pass this on to any Dopers who would be interested. Jeff Healey, who passed away in 2008, had this fantastic show on JAZZ FM called “My Kinda Jazz”. It featured Jeff going through his massive collection of 78s from the 20s and 30s, and filling in with his encyclopedic knowledge of the music and musicians of that time. Arrangements have been made with Jeff’s estate, and now this series is being re-broadcast. More information, including a link to listen to the station on-line, can be found here - JAZZ.FM91

Best news I’ve heard in days!

I have no time to check stuff like this out - grr. It sounds very cool.

Jeff Healey, for those who might not know. Lost his eyes to cancer at one, became a brilliant blues guitarist and singer, became a trumpet player and jazz musician after that, then died of cancer at 41. He’s a staple on Canadian rock stations.

More importantly, he was the leader of the house band in one of the all time great movies ;): Roadhouse, with the inimitable Patrick Swayze, the man who carries his medical file with him in case he gets beat up…

eta: Healey was a great guitar player, if unorthodox in style…

I just think it is so cool that these are all the same man -
Look at Little Sister with Stevie Ray Vaughan

One of his jazz solos from the 40th Birthday Bash.

As the Years Go Passing By, also from the 40th Birthday Bash

Fine and Dandy - Jeff sitting in on trumpet at Jazz Lives. (This camera man obviously hates Reg Schwager, the guitarist… )

Jeff Healey was also one of those rare people about whom I have never heard a bad word said.
