Gulf and Floridopers: The Ernesto Thread

Crap, now I gotta drink and I’m at work and it’s 7:55 am.

I didn’t say it. I merely observed no one had said it yet.

But hey, if you need an excuse to down a shot…

The last projected best estimate of the storm track I saw has the center coming over my bit of Mayberry Friday morning, as a TD. Nice way to ruin a day of playing hooky to do chores…

That’ll larn me to post without checking. It’s now going to go 100 miles west of me as a tropical storm. I’ll get the roughest weather now.

Brian, did you see all of the gas lines and things out of Miami-Dade? Holy smokes. I’ve found occasionally that convenience stores and drugstores have bagged ice and are less likely to sell out fast. YMMV.

It looks like he’s headed for us (upper keys) right now. Should be here this afternoon. If I still have power after it’s done, I’ll let you all know how it went. I think it’s going to be fairly nasty for us south Floridians/Keys people.

FWIW, the latest track is now more western and puts Ernesto straight up the gut of the state, before it moves out somewhere north of Okeechobee. I am concerned he’s going to jog on the western edge of the state and wreak havoc along the whole west coast of Florida. Could be a big problem. Stupid hurricanes can’t make up their minds.

I gots me a bad feeling about this one. :frowning:

It looks like it’s going to thread it’s way up he middle of the state like a urinary catheter up a … you know.

I’ve been sick for two days and I am out of drinking water and my car is low on gas. I may have to drag myself out to the gas station and the store just in case.

If you’re well enough to post on SDMB, you’re well enough to go get your water and gas. Get going. Don’t forget the beer and Cheetos too.

Beer and Doritos? Shit! I need to go to the store

I’ve only got one bottle of wine in the cooler too. That certainly won’t last me.

I’m hoping for my office to close but thinking it probably won’t and I’ll be slugging it out on I-4 tomorrow in the driving rain. Maybe there won’t be much traffic.

Good luck everyone.

Ah, well. At least that’s good for the water table. Best-case scenario, really. The Floridan Aquifer needs occasional hurricanes to replenish it. Especially with the population growth we’ve got now.

Thanks. Now I won’t be able to look at the storm projections without snickering.

My office closed at 3 p.m. today, which is nice because I didn’t sleep very well last night and I’m exhausted. My office may be open tomorrow afternoon. We’re supposed to call the emergency number to find out if we should report to work. At least I’ll get to sleep in for a change.

Last night I dragged all of my patio furniture inside. Now my apartment is even more crowded than before. It’s making me realize how much useless crap I’ve accumulated over the years.

Quick update from Key Largo- we’re getting very steady, very heavy rain and gusty winds right now. Tornado watches in effect, hurricane watch, tropical storm warning (happening). So far all is OK, just really damned wet. Hopefully he won’t go back out to sea when he’s done with us.

Hang in there, BoBettie.. At least you still have power.

It’s business as usual here tomorrow at my work, though we’re supposed to call in the hotline tomorrow morning and check.

'Nother Floridoper here!
I hate hurricanes, because any time there’s a mandatory evacuation, we have to go, even though we’re on very high ground 30 miles from the coast, on account of living in a mobile-home. ATM, it looks like most of Tampa will get tons of rain and maybe slightly higher-than-normal tides. Where I am (Plant City, for my fellow Floridians…) is closer to the icky part. I’ve got my evacuation plan (stay with friends in a “real” house in Palm Harbor) and the pet-carrier cleaned out to bring the bunnyrabbit with.

We’ll see what it looks like this time tomorrow…

All you South Floridopers - hunker down!!!

Good luck to you and your’s. I hope there is nothing coming that will be more than an inconvienince for you.
Please keep us posted.

Be safe, BoB!

I got the gas and the beer but I forgot to get snacks. Part of the problem was that everything I looked at made me nauseaus. I did get some mint chocolate chip ice cream and I had some when I got home … I couldn’t taste it. :frowning:

I think the beer will have to wait until I get over this cold/sinus infection/plague thingy.

The latest from the link is that Ernesto’s made landfall as a tropical storm with a fairly low wind speed but steady rain. I think this is good news.

Be safe, all you Floridopers. hugs tight

I think the worst is pretty much past us, although they’re saying we might still catch some outer bands of rain and wind. So far all looks good and I think we’re through it! Good luck to everyone else- hopefully it just rains itself out and finishes and doesn’t cross out over the water again.
