My son has a problem, folks…he is 10 years old and is involved in the 4-H Shotgun club. He’s shown a lot of promise and is really pretty good (he’s hitting 50% on skeet with an old hand-me-down Winchester Model 12 pump 20ga). Not bad, but the problem is, he really, really needs his own firearm. We’ve done a lot of research together, and determined that he needs a gun that will cycle with just about any ammo, and it needs to be a semi-auto to keep some of the recoil down. The firearm that seems to fit the bill is a Beretta AL391 youth model (20ga is standard). Mostly we selected this unit because we know the Beretta will cycle even cheap ammo. This is really important because he gets to actually attend competitions this year.
Now, I’ve made the commitment to get him whatever ammo he needs for practice and competition (works out to around 600 rounds/month right now), but the initial investment of the shotgun is a bit steep for us, especially in light of a $2100 transmission repair we just had done. He’s currently borrowing a club gun for practice (or the Winchester, as mentioned before), but it doesn’t cycle well (it’s a Remington 1100 that’s been cut down for youth). My son is really responsible, and has already saved/earned a little over $100 of the $820 that he needs (that’s complete - taxes, fees, etc), and he’s more than willing to work for the money.
I guess what we’re after is, what kind of fund-raising ideas do you guys have? Is there a way to set up sponsorships? We put a cheesy page on the web, but we’re not really sure how that will go…
Any ideas??
Thanks!
