Who the hell is Alison Aires? Seriously, AFAICT she’s some random person who posted some drivel on Facebook. “Idiot posts idiocy” is hardly worth a thread.
ETA: To clarify, so I’m not accused of threadshitting - if a politician like Nancy Pelosi or Ilhan Omar, or even a known anti-gun activist like David Hogg had posted this, absolutely it would be worth discussing. But unknown people post random shit all the time on social media, why the hell is this one worth talking about?
That’s not an argument for guns. It’s quoting the ravings of an idiot. Saying, “look, an idiot, and she wants to ban guns” isn’t an argument supportive of anything.
You and I both live in countries where guns are highly regulated and gun violence is minimal, and we don’t execute people in the town square. In fact like most civilized countries which respect human life we don’t execute anyone at all, ever, no matter what they’re convicted of. The US – which loves guns – incarcerates more people than any other major country on the planet, and executes many of them. Tens of thousands more die every year from lack of health care, although they are free to shoot themselves if that helps alleviate their discomfort.

I used to think that regulating guns was important, but now that I know there’s a person out there who posted on facebook that they think the government should shoot people who disobey gun laws, I’m totally changing my mind! There’s clearly a need for us all to own guns, to protect us from the evils that the government is about to perpetrate against us!
I agree that the war on drugs is half assed. We should take all of the lying and propaganda out of it.

You’re right, citing random people saying stupid things is a terrible way to make an argument. I’ll keep that in mind.
Let’s start with your point, first.
I really, really doubt that this is one of the primary reasons Americans want guns. In fact I think that “fear of being executed for breaking the law” isn’t even in the top ten reasons - I can think of at least a dozen different varmints that persons might want to shoot, and that’s not even counting the collectors, target shooters, competition shooters, and criminals.
Because the typical pro-gun American supports killing anyone who politically disagrees with them. Just like the extremist you quote; just using guns to do it with. Thus all the calls for “Second Amendment solutions” against anyone not right wing enough.
The difference is, you have to dig up some obscure anti-gun extremist to find someone willing to call for violence agaisnt gun owners, while the right wing elected somebody who calls for the murder of their opponents President. Calls for violence are fringe on the Left, mainstream on the Right.
That’s why residents of other countries primarily want guns. America has a much more aggressive primary reason.
Not really, but those who want guns because they view them as the ultimate symbol of power outyell, despise and insult the farmers and hunters who want guns because they’re tools, and the sports shooters who just enjoy shooting at targets in a controlled environment. It’s in part a case of “loud idiots make for bigger-font headlines than quiet, normal folk.”
