It was humorless junior modding. As Idle Thoughts pointed out, jtur88 should have made a report. As God is my witness, the mod note was spot on. And I can sympathize with Johnny L.A.'s irritation with him in the thread.

Given the title of this thread and the OP, I am sure that billfish678 is complaining about the fact that he got a mod note for calling other posters turkeys twice, not about the mod note to jtur88.

Of course the complaint is meritless. billfish did not make it clear he was joking, and even if a mod recognizes that an insult is meant as a joke not everyone else will. So it’s standard practice to mod note insults in order to avoid their targets taking offense and disrupting the thread if they retaliate. billfish has been around long enough to be familiar with this rule, so he doesn’t have any excuse.

From the FAQ:

Generally, you may not directly insult or personally attack other posters. The strictness of this rule varies a bit by forum, but the basic rule is that you should attack what the other person says, not the other person. **This rule applies to all insults, **including jokes and quotes from books & movies, as others may not get the joke. Using smilies (e.g., "You’re a jerk ") does not make insults okay.

Yes, the insults you directed at other posters were modded according to well-known and posted rules. Technically you could have received a warning for your posts. Even though you were just given a mod note, here you are complaining about it.

I don’t see the merit in your complaint. You quoted Johnny L.A. and posted “Gutless turkey.” If it hadn’t already been modded, I would have reported it myself. Even if you were joking, the rules don’t give you a pass. You were clearly on the wrong side of the rules. Besides, what are you beefing about? It was just a mod note, not a warning.
