There is something sexy about women athletes. Just kind of a limber, coordinated, ethusatic, ‘wild animal in the sack’ that it’s easy to make up a fanatsy about. But the problem is for a woman to be athletic and feminine. Broad shoulders, thick arms and thighs arn’t really at the top of my(or most guy’s turn on’s). Plus the flat chested thing(I realize that they are usually wearing sports bras and things to make it flat as possible so it stays in place). Chest isn’t quite as important on a normamlly muscled girl, but someone with rippling muscles needs something there to reduce the manish effect. Kournikova still looks feminine while being an athelete. Seles and Hingis are also feminine and hot. The Williams are just too manish for any amount of chest to help. Reece just makes me think too much of a guy to be a fantasy. Hamm is cute, but not amazingly sexy. I would say the all-time hot female athelete is Katerina Witt, cause she had a very toned lithe looking body, but still was feminine and has a nice rack.

Capriati cute, really? Wow. I would never have thought of her as attractive, but I guess this thread proves YMMV. Anyhow, I prefer brunettes, but as far as athletes go, I can’t see how you can say Anna is unattractive. On the pro circuit, she’s only an average tennis player. I don’t particularly like all the publicity she receives, since I much prefer watching tennis players who play first-rate tennis, like the Williams sisters and Capriati. Anna is just, eh, she could kick my ass, true, but certainly not a tennis “great” by any stretch of the imagination. (She’s number 55 in the world.)
That said, she has a perfect body, she’s young, she has an attractive face. She is fit, and guys like that. Her personality seems to leave much to be desired, so that’s a big reason why I don’t have a great attraction to her. I’m personally more attracted to Hingis myself. I also find the Belgians (Clijsters and Henin) quite cute as well. I guess that shoots my “I prefer brunettes” in the foot. But that’s my taste–I prefer cute over sexy.
But it is weird how women tend to single out all the little faults of very attractive women. At least I’ve never been in the company of men who were critiquing the looks of other men. (Of course, with us it’s cars, computers and electronic gadgets.)
She is actually as great-looking as Katie Holmes or Charlize Theron, the difference being she is nowhere near as sweet as Katie or Charlize. But, that aside, there’s not denying she’s actually hot (big-bang-explosion hot). 
And there’s the name: Anna. It’s really sexy (perhaps this is because the 2 n’s look like a pair of boobs.) 
Regarding her tennis, she didn’t always suck. Back in 1997, before looks had made her famous, she reached the Wimbledon semifinals, losing to then number 1 Martina Hingis who, as Epistaxis stated, is actually really cute.
I really don’t know of anyone who goes ape over this individual except for whomever is behind those spam emails that flood my inbox. I guess she’s pretty but it’s in such a bland, average way. There’s nothing unique about her.
I believe guys probably get all hot and bothered over her because there’s so much buzz about her being jerkable.
Who cares.
She’s all right, but I can think of many other women, celebrities including Sherilynn Fenn, Lara Flynn Boyle, Cindy Crawford, Brittney Spears, and Faith Hall, that I think are prettier.

Anna’s alright, but I prefer to watch Jelena Dokic play. it’s hard to find pictures that really do Dokic justice, but watching the live telecasts I find her incredibly beautiful.
The crazy thing is that my favorite female ‘athlete’ to watch is Canadian Curler (and local girl) Kelley Law. 30-something mother-of-two but when curling is on TV I stop to see if she is going to be on and if she is… I stay and watch. I wouldn’t even know the rules to curling if it weren’t for my gentle infatuation with Kelley. It’s her eyes… her incredible eyes…
Same for tennis to a much lesser degree… if Dokic or Hingis is playing I stop and watch. Anna… meh, I can take or leave, but I certainly see why other guys drool about her.
Or maybe you’re just a hard-core misogynist Reaganite who hates a woman with a strong body and a Russian face. The hype probably results from the facts that tennis is a popular singles sport and real beauty isn’t seen as often in athletics–sort of a man bites dog type thing. Taste is individual, of course. I think she’s beautiful independent of all the other reasons being bandied about. It’s got nothing to do with being bra-less or being an athelete or any of that crap. She’s beautiful. Hell, what do you see in Charlize Theron?!

To directly answer your OP; she’s young, fit, usually half-dressed, and, in my opinion, has a beautiful face. That’s good enough for me.
The only thing I will agree with is that she shouldn’t be No. 1 on the “hot” list. In the top twenty? Yes.
Kim Clijsters is just too…strong or something. Justine Henin-Hardenne, now, there’s a Belgian hottie!
And I find Venus and Serena to be drool-worthy, although moreso for Serena. Mostly 'cause her boobs are, well, huge. And I could go for that.
