Guys with long hair

I am 28 and I have long hair. My last haircut was the weekend before my wedding, three-years ago.

I never had long hair before, I just wanted to see what it was like. Now, my wife loves it and doesn’t want me to get it cut.

I absolutely adore guys with long hair, just please OG take care of it. Wash it, brush it, get it trimmed once in a while, just…please. Icky greasy stringy or fried hair is -not- good. well taken care of? Mmmmm, hair. Longer the better.

Mr. Lissar used to have slightly-below-shoulders hair. I miss it. He cut it for work last summer. I like long hair for guys if it suits them. Lots of guys look very bad with long hair, or don’t take care of it and let it get scraggly.
He didn’t ever get mistaken for a woman, but he’s 6"3 and usually has stubble.

My preferred guy is very neat and clean-cut. I only even like mustaches on certain faces.

However, long blonde hair on men is attractive, IF it’s well-kept and neat and washed regularly. Otherwise, forget it.

I don’t particularly like long dark hair on men.

I’ve been growing my hair out for about three years now; it’s now halfway down my back. The objective is to grow it long enough to donate it to the Locks of Love. When it’s ready, I’ll cut it and probably grow it out again.

I’ve got your stereotypical Asian hair: black and dead straight. I’m single, and I haven’t particularly found that my makes any difference with women. Well, maybe one difference: we can now talk about hair care products. :smack:

Long hair f’n rocks.

To the guy who posted his pic, I think it looks great. I would absolutely not recommend cutting it and going clean-cut.

I have never been into clean-cut guys, not at all. For me, it’s a complete and utter turn off. My guy has short hair, but also has facial hair, which, for me, is a must. And he has learned not to get it too short. We had a few issues when he’d go and let the Great Clips lady shave the back way too short. Sorry, I don’t want to date a dude who looks like a marine.

I also like chest hair. It’s manly.

Give me a long-haired, tattooed Hessian any day of the week.

I like guys who look like Marines.

My idol is a guy named Wino. He’s actually quite amazing, but that’s for a music thread.

Note, he is not the pale, shirtless, fat guy.

My wife liked my long hair when she met me but her enthusiasm (and mine) faded as my hair continued to thin. I wore it in a braid but it became a hazard as it would dangle into the 1000 volt power transformers at work.

After twenty years of long hair I got a haircut and I wouldn’t go back now even if I had the folicles for it. A shower takes five minutes again, no unbraiding the hair and getting it braided afterwards. I don’t have to mess with hair care products other than cheap shampoo. I don’t have to make sure the braid is not hanging down into the toilet when I take a dump. Life is much easier with short hair.

(Like it matters, but)

::sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp::

My hair tends toward slightly unkempt these days, but I do not use any styling products. There is also the fact that there is not much reason to keep it looking all spiffy and such, as the people in my life do not really care very much about it either way. My sisters used to, but they learned that I do not care how they feel about my hair because they do not live with me.

Here’s a longhaired guy checking in. Mine’s been this way since about Sept. or '98, tho I sported a mullet back into the early 90s. Check out my Yahoo profile for a pic. I agree with those who say “do what you want.” If someone wants to date you but not before you cut your hair, chances are the relationship wouldn’t work in the first place, IMHO.

I’ll also agree that taking care of your hair is time-consuming, but worth it, too. A lot of people spend time making the rest of their body look good (exercising, skin care products, etc) so why not your hair? Longhair that’s clean and healthy is beautiful.

That’s my $0.02.

Does this mean I’ve caught The Gay[sup]TM[/sup]?

Perhaps you guys with long hair can explain it to me. Why the desire to wear your hair long and feminine as a woman would wear? Why would a guy desire to have one or 2 pigtails?

The official reason given to me over the years was that the guy with long hair is making a statement…a statement about what?..why not go all the way and wear lipstick and makeup?

Long hair=feminine? It’s never boiled down to anything as simple as that.

Are you saying Thomas Jefferson and all those other historic guys with ponytails really wanted to look like women? :dubious:

Back when I was growing my hair out, my desire was to 1) piss off people I didn’t like and 2) do my own thing with my hair. There was no “oooh, I want to look all feminine, like a woman.” element to it. Ever.

Not that sort of statement, for one. “Screw off” was one.

I have had long hair since before I came out to anyone or even had serious thoughts that I might have cause to come out in the first place. It is entirely apart from my sexuality.

My thoughts on long hair totally depend on the wearer; I agree with those who say it suits some guys, but definitely not others.

I had an ex years ago with long hair, more or less down to his shoulder blades, in ringlets. He would only get it cut at the place at home (in Cleveland) where he had always gotten it cut, so while it could look gorgeous on him, it usually looked scraggly. (Like me, he has a tendency toward what some people call a “Jew-fro”; think Gene Wilder, but much thicker.) I tried and tried to get him to cut it here in Chicago, but he didn’t trust that any other stylist would respect his desire to keep it long.

Finally I convinced him to go to my hairstylist, a hilarious and very talented radical lesbian woman who generally hates men. She approaches every haircut like amilitary strategy planning session, and by that point his hair was giving her plenty of material; she spent 2-1/2 hours cutting his hair, and they parted fast friends. (She actually told me later that if all guys were like him, she might reconsider the man-hating thing.) He had her cut his hair for years after that, until he left for India.

Other people appreciated his long hair as well…when he first had it cut, he was out with some friends (but without me) at a cafe one night. The waitress cornered him at one point and told him that he looked like Jesus, and was he single? because if so, she wanted him to heal her.

I would walk over hot coals for a guy with long hair. ::: sigh ::: And both men who’ve posted their picture here, looked damn good to me. The only problem is that Lord Ashtar is too young and sunspace too far away. Regardless, I’d be one of those who’d drool over it no matter what (except for it being mullet-esque). My preferred method would be about shoulder length with a slight curl to it. However, I sure as hell wouldn’t be picky. If anyone out there is reading who might wonder, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’m sure we could work something out.

P.S. To longhair75 : That was so cute! ::: grin :::

And jinwicked : Your boyfriend has a kinda John Cusack vibe. Yum.

Oh my, do I loves me some long-haired Ren Faire men.

Give me a guy with long hair, a kilt and a broadsword any day. Or chain mail. Or a suit of armor astride a huge horse. Or a Court costume, bowing as he kisses me hand…or…

Excuse me, i think I have to go open a window. It suddenly got very hot in here…

Good point…But I’m not talking about a couple hundred years ago. I’m talking about now!

My question is simply: Why do some males like to wear long hair and/or pigtails when you can’t often tell whether they are male or female?
