I recently bought a Motorola E815 from Verizon to replace my LG 4400. The main reason I upgraded was to get Bluetooth. For my LG, I had a cable and software to manage the PIM data plus download ring tones and images directly to my phone. I bought a software/cable package made by BVRP that is Motorola-branded that purported to do the same thing. However, upon installing and running, the multimedia transfer function was not available in the software. I contacted BVRP and they said that Motorola disabled this function in the phone based on specs from Verizon. I contacted Verizon and they pretty much confirmed that story. However, they have not provided any rationale as to why in the world they would ask that existing functionality be disabled in this phone. I suspect it is so they can sell you ring tones instead of letting you make your own. (However, the LG did not have this functionality disabled. Go figure.)
I found one site that gives specs for hacking the seem on the phone. I did not hesitate to post here because I own the phone and I do not think that this modification would violate any licensing agreement with Verizon.
At any rate, the referenced page does not show a setting for multimedia transfer. So I am looking for any additional sources of data to pursue this.
Another alternative would be for a service that could make my own ring tones/images available for download from the phone over the air rather than by direct cable.
