Had your use of facebook changed since covid?

Not sure if this belongs in this forum or what, but I’ll try. and I’m going to put in a poll if I can.
my facebook use has skyrocketed and I really need to dial it back.
my work hours have fluxuated badly for the last few months - yesterday I only got 3 hours 11 minutes of pay  but I don’t seem to have any more time. where is all my extra time going?
facebook!

don’t see where to put in a poll. on anther thread I was able to stick a poll in during my random post so I assumed you could put a poll anywhere. apparently not.

I sent an invite to Jim to post here, mostly for practice. I can’t practice AND be interesting at the same time.
sorry!
now, can I put in a poll??? I don’t see a way.

I actually don’t use Facebook. I never used MySpace either.

At the end of the edit window tool bar is a little gear symbol and Build Poll is the last Option.

I retired in December so apart from having the rest of the family around all the time, not a lot has changed in my life, including FB usage. Well, except for not being able to go out to eat, but that never affected FB anyway - I don’t feel the need to post my feed in my feed.

not sure it was there when I originally started the thread, but I see it on replies.
thanks, Jim.

I deleted my FB account when they started tagging COVID fake news as fake news. Because, I figured, Oh, they’ve had the power to combat bullshit this whole time, but only now do they start caring? F those guys. FB makes the world a worse place and fact checking COVID BS is too little, too late.

if I knew what I was doing I could post a funny photo of a kitten laughing or something.
more to learn! [poll type=multiple min=2 max=4 chartType=pie]

  • laughing kitten
  • laughing person
  • laughing something else
  • gifs are evil
    [/poll]

OK, that didn’t work

You can edit your Op and add your own poll. I just threw up a quick example.

I honestly agree that FB is BAD and yet there are so many people there that I ONLY see there. so I feel like I have to be there.

but, seriously, my recent increase of time spend there is not a good thing.

:face_with_monocle:

ETA: you have a LOT of badges, Jim. you must be proud!

That’s what kept me there from 2016 through this year, but I’d finally had enough. I do feel bad about a few lost connections but I figure people dealt with that sort of thing for thousands of years.

Weird, how do you see those anyway?

Oh, I see.

I clicked on your name - now I know EVERYTHING about you!

I’m generally of the opinion that Facebook and similar social media like Instagram are good in theory, in that they let you keep up with far-flung relatives and friends, in practice they’re generally a cancer on our society.

So as a result, I very rarely look at Facebook- maybe once a month at most, and even them, I’m looking for pics of people’s families and happy stuff like that, not the incessant flood of dismayed/angry liberal and condescending/frightened conservative nonsense that infests the site these days. Plus, people cherry-pick so much of what they post, that it’s really easy for people to lose track of that- it can often make people feel inadequate or unsuccessful when in reality they are not.

Specifically I’m using Facebook Messenger to vid chat a lot more with my brother in N.J.

I’ve pretty much stopped looking at Facebook, except to check on where the taco truck will be today and whether the farmstand has any peaches. All the panicky the-sky-is-falling-and-we’re-DOOOOMED posts were just making me exhausted (and it’s worse now that there are some strong indications that the sky really is falling). I figure I can read the news for myself and I don’t really need anybody else to share the most sensationalized and out-of-context bits.

(Also, it was making me feel constantly judged for NOT being in a state of constant panic? I mean, it’s not even like I’ve even been doing anything particularly reckless, other than going to a couple of outdoor protests a few weeks ago and making plans to visit my parents in another state next month, but it’s like there’s suddenly this nebulous sin called Not Taking Things Seriously, and I feel like I am probably guilty as charged.)

how do you like it? have you used other video chats to compare?

LOL, but I agree. and yet I can’t stay away.

The other two I’ve used are Google Duo and Google Meet. At least for one-on-one Messenger seems easier to use.

My usage has dropped actually. The invasive creepiness of Zuckie-boy following me around and offering ads for everything I searched yesterday is too much.

I’ve decided it has no positive value and only one kid still posts there. I’m trying to figure how to best extricate ourselves from that cesspit. I’ve had enough.

On edit: I’ve already switched to Tor and DDgo, but the fact that I’m actually hiding from that subhuman piece of garbage annoys me to no end.
