Haggle - a game of trading and secrets

Oh, I noticed, but I didn’t want to clue anyone in to the incredible value it had (for me). Hal made a comment too.

Hm, so not even a counter-offer?

nah, wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture

Two days to go… and a lot of players seem to be so set on their portfolios that they don’t want to make last-minute trades. Ah, well.

Hey guys! Gesture of goodwill… who wants the B?

28: I’m giving away the B! Come get it!

And once again… what do you all want for your C? How many points? Somebody say a number!

I’ll take the B!

ETA: AND in exchange for that B, without being asked, I’m going to PM Dragoness a rule of my choosing. A real rule. (chrisk will get a copy)

Wow, that’s quite the rule. I thought I had a decent shot of winning this thing, till I saw that  Now I have to go frantically run the numbers on you and nesta. Not that that I can do much about it now…

Thanks again.

[thundering Hagglemaster voice]

Doctor Who, I don’t care that the game is nearly over, or that you were doing it essentially as a free giveaway in reply to another free giveaway. You should not have pmed Dragoness rule 17, because you do not hold a copy.

I have said from the beginning, always be very sure that things are kosher before pming rules, and that is the most basic regulation. You cannot propagate rules you do not hold, unless you are willing to announce them in the thread.

There may be sanctions for this. I’m not sure yet.
[/thv]

ETA: nesta, USCDiver, I consider the two of you the injured parties here, I guess, since you hold the two extant copies of 17. Therefore, I’d be interested to hear your reactions, either here in the thread or privately.

I’d only dock him like maybe 12 billion points since it was probably just a book-keeping error and not a malicious act.

How’s about: neither Dragoness nor Doctor Who will be allowed to make any more trades.

Hmm… that seems a bit harsh on the Dragon Lady, since she didn’t ask for that PM or have any clue beforehand that it was an illegal rule. I realize that she’s got intel now that she shouldn’t, but still… I might well be upset to get a total trade lockup if I were in her situation.

Probably neither should make any trades without approval, until we’ve sorted this out though. Sorry D. :frowning:

Or!

Or, we could all get a rule that we haven’t seen and call things even!
It’s only fair.

Actually, you have to make it TWO rules that we haven’t seen just to prevent such injustice from happening in the future.

What about the people who, through their own hard work and diligence, have already seen all the rules?

They get granted two letters of their choice.

BTW, back from my mini-vacation, all…be catching up on the thread in a bit.

Hey! It’s because of hard work and diligence that I haven’t been able to obtain all those things. If you know what I mean.

First off, withdraw and and all open Hal Offers.

Ok, as we near the end, it’s time for my final deals. Or, rather, it’s time for you to make offers.

Here are the cards I will part with:
G, G, J, K, K and X

First, I’ll give up any three of these and a rule slip (give, not peek) for an “I” Card.

Once that is done, I’ll give up two of the remaining cards and a rule slip (give, not peek) for an M Card, and the remaining card and a rule slip (give, not peek) for a W Card.

I hold rule slips 1, 5, 6, 11, 12, 14 and 15. Make me an offer.

Ouch, you’re right. Like Uncommon Sense said, just a bookkeeping error. That’s like what, they fourth or fifth time I’ve tried to trade/manipulate rules that I don’t own. So sorry.

Ah, waitaminute waitaminute. Before you start spouting things like “sanctions,” am I to take this to mean that IF I POST RULE 17 IN THIS THREAD THAT NO DAMAGE WILL HAVE BEEN DONE?

Fine, I’m going to post it. Just give me the OK.

Umm… okay, not really at all sure what we’re going to do about this, so close to the end of game, but…

I should have said ‘You cannot propagate rules you do not hold, except by announcing them in the thread.’ Announcing it out loud as a way of ‘fixing’ the damage afterwards isn’t too helpful, although if you had wanted to ‘tell’ it to Dragoness that way in the first place, that would have been alright.

Question: what’s the difference? A few hours? I post it into the thread, everybody sees it (including Dragoness) and no harm is done. Sure, procedures weren’t followed by mistake, but so what? No harm, no foul.

Okay, maybe I’ve been a bit too hard-assed about this. If you broadcast, that will probably be considered in mitigation, or something.

As it happens, the only active player that will benefit will be Priceguy.
