This is the Star Control 2, apreciation thread. Persons that don’t like the game are not welcome (but since I am not the owner of SDMB… yet, you can post).
It’s my favourite game, I remember when I bought it, I remember when I first played. Funny because I though at first that the game sucked, I remember thinking that it was a 4.5 Asteroids or Space Invader. Then I though well let’s visit the third planet… and the adventure began, great dialogues, great story, the best.
3 years ago I moved and lost my copy, and I couldn’t find another copy (one of the disadvantages of living in the third world). No I can only remember my lost love (I’ll be honest the only reason I am not playing it right now is that I can’t find it in the net ).
Anyone knows a game like it? Somehow, homeworld reminded me of it. Any recomendations?
How about The Ur-Quan Masters? It’s a free (legal) port of the 3DO version of Star Control 2. Right now it’s still in alpha stages though.
My favorite video game of all time. Ever. For any platform. I love the music (which would play on an internal PC speaker), the fights, the graphics (mode 13h), the storyline, the characters, and most of all, the dialogue. I have performed Fwiffo’s monologue in Drama class. I yell Tanaka’s insults at my friends. I have adopted a voice for each of the different species, and read them aloud when I play. I have hand-drawn the map at least twice, and drawn up areas divided by nearest Quasispace portal. I learned the names of the constellations from this game. I have typed up by hand all of the Melnorme trading information. I have flowcharts and diagrams showing the sequencing of game events. I have screen-captured all of the species’ images and made many of them into buddy icons. I… well, that’s enough for now.
My favorite musics are, in order: Hyperspace, Melnorme, Human, Quasispace, Combat, Utwig, Shofixti, and Slylandro.
