hair problems

I am a 17 year old guy, I have hair problems:
-My hair is really wavy-- specifically: wavy throughout, but really curly near the ends of the hairs (which is about 4-5 inches long, incase you wanted to know)
-My hair is really big (not really really big, but too big for my taste).
-My hair is kind of dry and course, but I use conditioner (which, as I just read the bottle, is extra volume–going to change that). Is there an anti-volume formula?

Thinking about buying a mechanical (as opposed to chemical) straightener, but they are costly (anywhere from $100-$300 as I have seen). Any advice for any of my complaints? I really hate my hair.

Seems like it would be heck of a lot easier to keep it really, really short.

I’m not real fond of short hair.

HeartofGold, look for moisturizing formulas for conditioners. Do you have frizzy hair when it’s humid outside? If so, consider L’oreal’s Smoothvive shampoo and conditioner. They’re inexpensive and really work to smooth your hair. If you blowdry your hair to straighten it, go to your favorite hairdresser and ask for a lesson in blowdrying your hair smooth and straight. There’s an art to this, because it’s easy to puff your hair up even more if you’re not careful. Good Luck.

From your description of it, it sounds to me like you’re a prime candidate for dreadlocks. With your type of hair, they’d be extremely easy to do. You can find instructions online in a number of places if you google “dreadlocks”.

I think my hair must be similar to yours, although its quite long so the weight of it helps. If you look around you should be able to find some decent straighteners that don’t cost too much, i bought some two years ago for £30, IIRC, which is certainly less that $100. There are a lot of crappy ones that take half an hour to heat up, wreck your hair and take a long time to make it look ok but some are quite good - mine break my hair a little more than they should but i try not to use them too often. I try not to blow dry it because i suck, it looks far worse than before and the heat does it no good. Just don’t waste money on the sunsilk aloe serum shampoo and conditioner (although i haven’t a clue if its available in america), its did nothing positive for my hair.

I say enjoy it while you still have it! :stuck_out_tongue:
