Ladies - Haircare question

Okay, so I’m trying to grow my hair out since last September. I figure in a month or two it will be long enough to pull back and keep out of my face. Until then, it’s driving me crazy.

Apparently I have rather wavy hair when it gets long. So instead of laying down straight, it’s curling up and going every which way. This makes me look like a cross between a mad scientist and a guy who just got electocuted.

Basically, I’m wondering what you ladies with curly hair do to make it straight. I’m not going to spend two hours every day doing my hair, but I was hoping there was a simple thing I could do to help me keep my hair straight and keep my sanity.

Any suggestions?

I have curly hair. When I want to make it straight I see my stylist. It’s way too much of a hassle to do it myself. There’s all sorts of blow drying and straight ironing involved and I don’t have that kind of time.

If you don’t want to see your stylist, I imagine you’d need some sort of pomade to smooth the hair, a really, really good blow dryer, a paddle brush and a lot of time and patience.

Along with the realization that if you step out into humid summer air, it’ll just frizz up on you.
If you blow dry your hair straight, make sure it is completely dry. Even a little damp left in it means that it’ll curl/frizz as it dries the rest of the way. Take your time and dry the underlayers first. If you can twist the top layers up, so much the better. A paddle brush is your friend, as is a blow dryer that directs the air in a specific stream - mine has an attachment on the front that narrows the flow.

You can try Frizz-ease serum, though I usually use it when I want to make sure I curl, not frizz. Put it on when your hair is soaking wet, then blow dry straight.

Generally though, I consider it far too much of a pain to do myself and only have straight hair when I go to the hairdresser. And then I regret it because my hair never looks that good again.

I have wavy hair. I can scrunch it and make it curly or use gel and a paddle brush with a blow dryer and it will lay down stright. Get one of those wooden flat brushed and some good thick gel and just blow it dry. That is the best advice I can offer you. Oh and oince it is dry, hair spray whil eit is still warm. Good luck.

Having very curly hair, I learned along time ago two key ideas:

No layers.

Blow dry. If it’s really curly a round brush will help.
