Hair Salon Help

I’m not a native of Illinois so I would like some help trying to find a salon in Chicago. I’m willing to pay between 300-400$ (tip included) for my haircut. Any suggestions would be welcome-I’d like to get a few so I can call around and see who is available and how much expertise they have in ethnic hair and compare prices. Also I know that at the price I’m willing to pay the snoot level would be high but if any of you could suggest salons that have a “nice” atmosphere where they’re not going to look down on my lawstudent self, I would really appreciate. In terms of availability-I’m trying to set up an appointment for a month in advance, approximately. Thanks for your help in advance.

$300-$400 for a HAIRCUT? Oh, honey, please! I hope that was a typo and you meant $30-$40.

Anyway, on to an actual recomendation. I just got my hair cut at a place in Lincoln Square (North side of city, take Brown Line to Western Ave.) called Renessence. My wash, cut and style was $45, and the woman who did my hair (Amy) did a fantastic job! Here’s a link to the Citysearch page on them with all their info:

They are a full-service place, and I’ve been very happy with the services I’ve gotten there so far (2 haircuts and 1 eyebrow threading). It’s a very nice, spa-like environment without all the snooty spy-like attitude you often get at salons.

I hope that helps!

Honestly, I would prefer this thread not degenerate into a commentary on how much I’m willing to pay. I am willing to pony up, I want something really nice and I want people who cut ethnic hair etc. etc…

Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Sorry, I meant no disrespect, I just couldn’t imagine spending that much on a haircut. But I’m also cheap and have stick-straight hair that just about anyone could cut, so I’m lucky in that I can go practically anywhere and get a halfway decent cut! Many apologies for offending you! (me → :smack: )

I’m not sure if Renessence has anyone who specializes in ethnic hair, but it couldn’t hurt to call and ask. Like I said, they’re a full-service place without the full-service attitude. I’ve had nothing but great experiences there.

Another place you might want to check out is Milio’s Hair Salon (http://www.milioshairsalon.com/site/main.html). They’re just off the Belmont El Stop - you can look in their windows from the Southbound trains they’re so close. They’re very popular with the alternative crowd, and I believe I’ve heard good things about them from people with ethnic hair. I’m not sure what their prices are like, but I believe they’re under $100 for a cut.

Many of the ultra-high-end places are on Oak Street, which is also where a lot of the expensive boutiques are located. Unfortunately I can’t give you any salon names since I can barely afford to walk on Oak Street, much less shop there. If I think of anything, I’ll post it, though.

No probs, I wasn’t offended, I just didn’t want it to devolve into berating me for spending money or being spoiled/princessy or something. Thank you very much for your suggestions, I’ll call them up. Last night my sister suggested some place called “Roque.”
