Half forgotten old songs

I love that song!

I loved it as a kid, own the DVDs.

But, the episodes range from “that was funny, that holds up”, to “ok they were stoned when they wrote this”, to “THAT was stupid”, to “WTF drugs were they one for that one?”

Someone one joked that “Joanne” was the name of a cow. I hate them for that to this day!

[I Go Crazy]

I recorded two from that album, that, and Ride 'Em Cowboy. A friend made fun of me, “why you copying THAT?” I said, I didn’t record it…for YOU.

I’ve got a soft spot for sappy sad songs. I will defend Wildfire with my dying breath.

As do I, you, now!
:~)

Back in the old days, a friend was playing music off his iPod at an all-night poker game. It was one Top40 Soft ‘Yacht Rock’ song after another. After America and Garfunkel and Buffett and Fogelberg and the SECOND Stephen Bishop song , one friend grabbed it, scrolled through, held it aloft and said:

"I proclaim this The Whitest Ipod Ever!"

The whitePod.

well, the OP was about forgotten songs … there are quite a few ABBA songs that got some airplay way-back-when, but weren’t really hits … I refer to those songs that are half forgotten.

Also, I think a lot of the ABBA rennaisance has to do with the Mama-Mia movie … at least that is where my girls (teenagers) dove into them …

Mama Mia was definitely the next wave of the renaissance, but by the early 2000s, they were already cool again.

Probably due to the movie Muriel’s Wedding.

Sadly, Muriel’s Wedding is little-known in North America. I saw it when I was in Australia, and quite liked it. Fun film, with lots of great Abba songs. When I returned to Canada, I told my friends about it. I was met with blank stares.

But it did provide a springboard for Toni Collette, who went on to play the mother in Little Miss Sunshine, and has done a lot of other roles in American productions.

I enjoy forgotten B-sides, deep cuts, unpromoted covers, as well as the second act of a one-hit or one-album wonder. The fun part is when I’ve been listening to 2-3 minutes to a song that sounds completely unknown, and then the hook drops. Pull these up, don’t look at the title or artist, and see if you can beat the buzzer:

mystery white guy

different, moderately less white guy

Your post reminded me of another half-forgotten Joe Jackson song, Memphis:

Steppin’ Out was a great song.

that post after the one from @BlankSlate is a prime example of “backhanded compliment” …

… and agree, I do …

The writer of Wildfire, Michael Murphey, also wrote a nice song that the Monkees did “What Am I Doing Hangin’ 'Round”.

Devil Woman - Cliff Richards
Baby Come Back - Player
How Long - Ace
Miracles - Jefferson Starship
With Your Love - Jefferson Starship
Fallin’ in Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds
Don’t Pull Your Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds

Any love for Leon Russell’s Tight Rope?

I have most of these songs in my collection. Don’t know what that says, but there it is.

I always knew you were a kindred spirit.

The man was underappreciated, a real musician’s musician.
