Halfway through August in the M.M.P

I so wish I could be at your table for this! Sound delicious.

My 3yo grandgirl Harriet finally defeated her parents and me. We’ve switched to ‘quiet time in your room’. She can do reading or playing with quiet toys but she must stay in her room until the hour timer signals the quiet time is over. If she does that reasonably well she gets a sticker on the chart and once a week gets to pick out a new toy/puzzle from a stash the grown-ups pulled together. Interestingly she asked to put MCDs French fries or a chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles in with those possible choices. It is working well so far. Sure beats hold the door shut while she screams and cries.

Janice And yes, I’d like to see a rattie pic too.

Boo

Afternoon all. The Monday sub sammich has been assimilated and nappage has occured, so maybe I will do something useful today. Foot still hurts when I try to walk, but seems to be getting better. 90F now, which is another good reason to stay inside.

FCM, here are some interesting ideas with hot dogs from around the globe, courtesy of a on-line show called Good Mythical Morning–International Hot Dog Taste Test - YouTube

Boo, sounds like a pretty smart 3 year old. You and her parents better watch it…

janis, yes, pictures of said rat would be interesting. Glad he’s doing better.

cookie, good idea on the flu shot. Will look around for the opportunity.

bat boy, thought Aussie-land had a pretty good handle on the virus. Guess not yet. Y’all be careful.

Everyone take care now.

Debating going to the park this afternoon.
I don’t want to, but the dogs are already excited and want to go.

I have things to think about, and figures that need to be mangled.
I need to write out a list of pros and cons of moving.

Echo gets spayed tomorrow. I’m debating going to the park first and letting her burn off some energy. Or I could sleep in. I could drop Ripple off at daycare and have a day to myself since they probably won’t go on Hump Day. I am so looking forward to making Echo rest, that is going to be so easy. A woman at the park said she has a big crate I can borrow if I need it.

Guess we will go to the park. I don’t know though, I thought it was going to rain, but the sun is out, it’s only 79 degrees, and the park will likely be crowded. I’m not in the mood to deal with a crowd. Or maybe it won’t be since it’s Moonday and a lot of people may be at irk.

Pictures? I thought you’d never ask…
My Precious Dom on his usual perch.

Dom is indeed beyond cute! I can just feel that warm furry and the whiskers twitching is adorable.

This thread and the weekend I just had remind me I need to find a new GP and that I should hie myself to the OB/GYN for a checkup I haven’t had in two years. I’ve avoided going to anyone but the neurologist (who I really just need to make sure I get my anti-convulsant) because I assume they’ll all tell me the same thing: “Hey, think about losing some weight.” What has spurred my concern about my own health is concern for a friend’s: she recently discovered she needs surgery not only for the newly-identified mass on her liver, but also for the polyps in her ovaries and her hip, which is breaking down and requires a replacement. So, probably identifying issues is worth sucking it up and going in.

Anyway, I need to do that. Also need to figure out how long to use this ointment I have to put on my eyelid. I found out the fun way I’m allergic to Costo-brand scented detergent. My optometrist tells me that he’s seen a huge spike in eye infections and general irritation since people started wearing masks due to COVID, so make sure you use non-scented detergent when cleaning them. Oh, and gently washing and very thoroughly rinsing your eyelids with baby wash helps. That’s my PSA. Fortunately I can see normally again - my left eye was nearly swollen shut. On the bright side, I was taking PTO anyway, so at least I had already planned not to be working. All’s well that ends well, right?

I saw my doc this morning and just like I thought he wants to wait for blood until next month since I went a week without my cholesterol pills. I am all hooked up now though with a 90 days supply of everything. We have met our out of pocket so a big bag of drugs was free.

I went to irk afterwards. I started working on my evaluation and am happy with it. I just need to finish the IDP and send it along digitally so he can mess with it. I was good to myself. I filled out a leave chit for this week. I will have 155 days of use or lose so I am taking this Thursday and Firday off instead of half days, the day after the election to cry or celebrate and the week of Thanksgiving if I am staffed. I will have to figure out the rest.

Our supper is leftovers from yesterday which suits me. I want a nap but it’s too late to nap so early bedtime it is.

Everyone Janice is Pearl. Nice rat Pearl.

Butters - 155 days or 155 hours? That’s a lot of days!!

I’m not usually a fan of hot dogs, but they were good. Even the dogs got one because I dropped it (dammit!) The dishwasher is washing and Roxy is getting some quality time with her father. FCD is writing emails (that man never stops working!) and I"m hearing thunder. :open_mouth:

About to assume the chillage position.

pearl, Dom’s a cutie!

I rarely eat hot dogs, but when I do, I either go low end or high end. I like a corndog from Sonic or the fair now and then, but any other time, I go kosher all beef dogs.

My BG was all of 52 this morning when I woke up (it needs to be at least 70 to be safe to do much of anything), so I stayed home. I ate a bowl of oatmeal with dried cranberries, raisins and maple syrup to bring the sugar levels up. By afternoon, I was feeling half human.

It’s back to irk tomorrow though. Joy.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Thanks, all ,for all the love for Rats Domino. He really is a good boy.

Fajitas for supper tonight, then not much else going on… gonna be busier than the one legged dood in a butt kicking contest, tomorrow, though. I am playing hooky from Irk , but I’m going to be cleaning and cooking all day. It would have been PB’s Birthday and Mom and Daddy are coming over to have dinner and celebrate his life. I miss him more than words can say…

Le blurf. Long day. Of course it was, it’s Monday.

Got my Walmart order (after waiting 15 minutes in the parking lot–some kind of screwup on their end). Guess which item was out of stock? Did you guess the canned unsweetened pumpkin? You’re right! I guess there is a diarrhea epidemic among all the pets in Apple County. We’ll just have to wait until Connor goes to the vet for his tutoring next week to put a cork in his little butt.

ETA: Hey look, it’s my joiniversary! I didn’t even remember! Seriously, it was almost 20 years ago, there’s no way I was going to remember the specific day.

Hot dogs, lots of hot dogs. What kind of kids eat lots of hot dogs?

The one from Chile looks good…

Extra heavy box load due to Saturday overload. Made bugers and fried with corn on the cob for dinner. Watching hockey.

Rats Domino? I love it!

My sister-in-law used to have a rat named Yersinia…

He must have been a real pestis

Red, you really should look into a CGM–mine is set to raise hell at 80, so if i need to I can reach for the medical OJ.

@janis_and_co, Dom’s adorable. I had a pet rat as a kid. When we’d put him in his ball while cleaning his cage, he’d run right up to the cats and tease them. You could practically see the smirk on his little ratty face. “I know you can’t get me!”, while the cats were going nuts trying.

Not as many freakout cases as expected, lots of dry pool divers. At least irk supplied ice cream, since it’s triple digits here. Well, at least until we suddenly got a lot of overcast and haze tentatively blamed in part on fires in nearby counties.

DH has a surgery time, 1215 on Wednesday. They want him there by 1015. I’ll be allowed one visit, before 2100. He might get an earlier slot if another patient cancels. Whether I get him back home that evening or he stays until Thursday will be determined after surgery.

To-do list includes installing suitable entertainment apps for DH on my tablet, which will accompany him to the hospital so he can stream from our selection of digital movies or Crackle (he’s been binging Fantasy Island lately). We’ve got a selection of protein-heavy snacks for him (beef sticks, cheese sticks, nuts, and such). Does anyone know if shelf-stable sugar-free pudding cups exist?

Evening all. Caught up with both threads (some people…) and not much to report. Got a postcard for an 8th grader (teacher welcoming him to the world of Virtual Learning) who it turns out lives in a house with the same number as me, but on a different street, so I took it up and dropped it in the mailbox. So my good deed for the week is done…

janis, nice pics of the Rat…never owned one, despite my SD nomenclature.

Cats, happy anniversary.

red, not a good idea to let it drop that low. Be careful.

Butters, like FCM says, more likely you meant hours, that’s still almost 4 weeks of leave in the next 4 months, guess you’ll be getting some rest.

And assorted hugs, groans, laughs and general merriment for tonight.

Forgot my phone at home today, so no clandestine peeking while irking & now I’m all behind!

Rats Domino is a cyoootie! Why, I didn’t know there were (m)any rodent people here.

Got a chicken boobie in the oven with some root vegetables (that’s right, veggies plural how smug & virtuous do I already feel) and I hauled home some groceries so that’s done.

Was shooting for “under 100” and the total was something like $99.58 :sunglasses: I’d love to claim stellar math skills but … nah. Just thought, “Okay, that looks like plenty!”

Snack Pack brand pudding cups come in Sugar Free. Checked on line and they don’t need refrigeration. Google Snack Pack pudding cups >images>Sugar free. Will show all the flavors and which lines of stores carry them. I remember seeing Target, Wal Mart, Kroger, Hy Vee, HEB, don’t know what is near you but that site will tell you.

Good luck with the surgery. Pro tip: accept any and all pain meds offered. He’ll heal faster if he’s not gritting his teeth in pain. Contrary to popular belief there are no medals given out for going without pain medication.
