I think we can generally conclude that people who seek the spotlight are utterly self-absorbed and incapable of a long-term, meaningful relationship with another person. The fact that they tend to consort with other spotlight seekers just compounds the problem, whether one is a “sex addict” or not.
Why is it that men who have an affair with one or two women are considered to be cheating sleazebags, but men who cheat with tens or hundreds of women are considered “sex addicts”?

I’ve kept away from this thread for fear of being accused of taking Eric Benet’s side in a marital problem I don’t know anything about. However, it might help to look at Merriam-Webster’s definition of addiction:

So a behavioural addiction would seem to be defined by compulsive behaviour that the subject is not able to control rather than how much of it they do, or who they do it with. I think I’d rather hear a qualified professional’s judgement before I made my mind up about Benet’s (or Douglas’s) behaviour. According to everything I’ve read about it, sex addiction isn’t just having a high sex drive or wanting a lot of sex (because then they’d just be pestering their wives for more). It’s trying to achieve sexual encounters with new people in a compulsive or neurotic way.
The difference between an addiction and dishonesty is whether the person is able to control it or not; and how much their control is related to a psychological ailment as compared to simple selfishness. In the same way, alcoholism is not how much you drink, but how much you’re in control of the decision to drink or not. Same with gambling, shopping, eating, hand washing etc. etc.
Eric Benet may be ill, or he may be a cheating shit. I’m not qualified to judge, and I suspect nobody else here is either.
I just gotta see the woman who looks good enough to tempt Halle’s Hubby into cheating. That better be one fine looking woman.
