Hallmark Channel buckles to pressure

Well, seniors skew conservative. Do you need to see the polls that show this?

The audience for Hallmark does skew older, though far less than I thought it did. So it isn’t that Conservatives like cheesy romance more, it was for me that seniors like Christmas movies and Detective shows.

And, the Hallmark brand, itself, has always been more traditional and conservative.

Lifetime has been making these movies for decades.. They’re not as relentless as the Hallmark ones (they’re a little bit edgier than the Hallmark ones. Also, occasionally on the other channels, non-white people fall in love. Hallmark does not approve of that.) ion and the channel currently known as “freeform” also make them. And of course Netflix has gotten into the game.

FYI: **Freeform **is owned by Disney, they’re pretty bad about cutting up movies badly to fit into a certain amount of time and room for commercials. I made the mistake of watching Matilda off of Freeform 2 nights ago and it was chewed up very badly.

**Lifetime **is owned by A&E. Which in turn is co-owned by Disney.

Ion is owned by Ion from what I can see.

FYI, Freeform is the current name for the channel formerly known as The Family Channel or ABC Family. Personally, I think it’s a stupid name, but I’m definitely not the target audience.

:dubious:

Out.

Oh hey, woke advertising ! Quick question : who ever gave even the tiniest of fucks about Hallmark movies ? There you go.

I’d rather watch the commercial.

Trevor Noah on the Hallmark debacle:

Hallmark will be introducing a new line of cards that will say, “I’m sorry for saying ‘I’m sorry’ to the person I was supposed to say ‘I’m sorry’ to.”

I think they already market those cards in Canada.

I laughed my ass off at this- very true! Most fun wedding I’ve been to,even including my own, was a gay wedding for a couple of friends of ours. It was an absolute fancy blast- great food, great decor, fun stuff to do, cool people, etc…

I like the Good Witch, and the sequels to it that I’ve seen.

I don’t think I’m a postmenopausal woman, but I suppose I could be mistaken.

Heh, recently there was a post on Reddit about how generic heterosexual Christmas movies are by noticing how almost all have the couples wearing red and green in the movie poster/thumbnail:

Seems that most are Hallmark movies, and others already noticed that formula years before.

One commentary:

I never had much interest in the movies but I’ve pretty much boycotted Hallmark – the cards anyway – since the mid-eighties. Artist Sandra Boynton approached them about producing some of her cards (her most famous is Hippo birdie two ewe). Hallmark said no, they were too weird, then six months later opened their Shoebox division which at first, had art remarkably similar to hers.

Wait, wait, wait…

United States 2019 population is estimated at 329,064,917 people at mid year according to UN data. [United States Population (2024) - Worldometer]

This group claiming to comprise less than 1/3rd of 1% of the US thinks they can dictate advertising content for a television broadcaster trying to serve a nationwide audience?!? Perhaps they need to claim to be…I dunno…the ***Hundred **Million Moms Club *or something somehow impressive.

–G!
Aww heck! It’s a couple zeroes; they means nothin!

It did work at first.

They only had 25000 signatures, so it’s more like the 100000 Mom march. They dont got no million Moms.

More like the “YOUR Moms Club”, amirite? Amirite?

Salon article: Hallmark movies are fascist propaganda

What’s your point? Is there an actual critique? I thought it was frowned upon to post a link with no critique of your own. I skimmed the article, and I think the writer is being overly reactionary. Propaganda? Maybe. Fascist? Give me a fucking break.
