Halloween costume help/advice thread

It’s that time of year again for the costume-conscious, and as there doesn’t seem to be one of these threads yet — and I’m in need of the Dope’s collective wisdom — I’ll get the ball rolling.

This year, a friend and I are going as Adam and Jamie of Mythbusters fame. I’m Jamie, which is a delightfully easy costume, save for the fact that I have nowhere near enough time to grow the trademark facial hair. I’ve never needed to use a fake beard before, so I’m not really sure where to begin. I do know the ones you can buy in Halloween stores A) aren’t long enough and B) look like ass, so that’s no use.

Googling has turned up some online outfits that sell decent-looking human hair beards that I could trim down to size, but they don’t seem to come equipped with 'staches, and that’s kinda the crux of the outfit. Given that I’ll have to cut the edges off the beard anyway, I could try to fashion a moustache out of that, but I just don’t see that ending well.

Anyone have experience in the fake face fuzz department? I’m open to any suggestions.

Also, of course, feel free to post your own questions. Happy costuming!

Maybe try to buy a wig, cut and style it into the proper shape, and use spirit gum to affix it to your face?

Have you tried looking at professional costuming shops in your area? These are the ones that are open year round for the theater and opera. They can recommend where you can find the what you need.

If you’re not too terribly concerned with how costumey it looks, I’d go with something like thisand trim it into a more Jamie shape. It’s cheap, self adhesive and simple.

If you want something that looks better and stays better, then I’d go with a Zapata Moustache (the shape isn’t perfect, but it’s very close) and a trimmed 3/4 Goatee, affixed with well tacked spirit gum.

I need advice - we’re getting married right before Halloween and our rehearsal dinner is a costume party so we need to look better than everybody else! We’re going as Frankenstein’s Mobster (and Bride) because of an accidental hilarious autocorrect last year. We’ve got two problems (and recall, this has got to be pretty easy because holy shit, wedding.)

Makeup. I suppose he could start with a latex headpiece, but that seems like Advanced Level Makeup to me. Perhaps we could get by with a couple of bolts and scars? And then, does green look good, or should we just go for pallor? Should we do his hands, too? I don’t see that working well - will people notice?

Wig. All the Bride of Frankenstein wigs I’ve seen suck ass. Yet, I don’t want to put a ton of work into, I don’t know, getting a wig and making a framework or anything. Suggestions? (I CANNOT use my own hair; the wedding is the next day and anything that doesn’t wash out properly or whatever… don’t even go there.) Any way to improve a crappy wig? Or other wig ideas? (You can see them online.)

And what the hell happened to violin shaped violin cases?
