I want to burn a CD for use on halloween and would like suggestions. No tired old crap like The Monster Mash, though I can’t say I’m above novelty songs. godzilla and Joan Crawford Has Risen From The Grave by Blue Oyster Cult are good ones. I’ll probably include a few cuts from Alan Parsons Project’s first album, TOMAI:Edgar Alan Poe but need some more material.
I am far, far, far, far from being musically cultured, but a song I really enjoy is
something called “Monsterparty Unplugged” by a German band, Die Artze (with an umlaut on the A). It’s got enough keywords in English to be really fun for someone totally ignorant like me, and a really upbeat refrain.
Might be entertaining.
Ooooh!
How about:
Oingo Boingo: Dead Man’s Party or * No One Lives Forever*
They Might Be Giants: * Dig My Grave* or Hall of Heads
Just about anything from Godsmack or Rob Zombie
The opening strains of Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” . But only if it’s played on the organ, not one of the orchestral arrangements.
Bela Lugosi’s Dead by Bauhaus might fit the bill. If you want something a bit different, get hold of copy Closed on account of rabies - a tribute to Edgar Alan Poe by everyon from Iggy Pop to Christopher Walkern.
If you just want to frighten the children, there’s always this
This type of thread has come up before. I’ll offer a few of my usual recommendations:

–Dr. John, I Walk on Gilded Splinters
–Bernard Herrmann, Selections from the Psycho Soundtrack
–Donovan, Season of the Witch
–Stevie Wonder, Superstition
–The Doors, People Are Strange and The End
–Count Five, Psychotic Reaction
–Squirrel Nut Zippers, Hell
–Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil
–Nick Cave, Red Right Hand]
–Elton John, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
–The Bees, Voices Green and Purple
Aagh! My eyes! My ears! somebody hold me
Type O Negative’s “Love You To Death” is a great Halloween song.
Marilyn Manson’s cover of “I Put a Spell On You” from the* Lost Highway* soundtrack.
The title track from David Bowie’s Scary Monsters, Super Creeps.
ANYTHING by Diamanda Galas; best bet probly “You Must Be Certain of the Devil” or “Baby’s Insane.” If you don’t mind some healthy profanity, one of her most extreme songs is the title track to The Sporting Life. You can hear snatches at the link I provided. Really almost any track off of this album will do if you’re looking for songs; if you’re just looking for creepy audio, any track from any of her albums will do: about every other album is one of her one-woman operas in screams. She did the witchy soundtrack effects for Coppola’s *Dracula *and for The Serpent and the Rainbow. Here’s a pic from the first concert of hers I ever saw; I’ve seen several. Here are some more pictures, to give you an idea of the personality she projects. You can’t get any Halloweenier than Diamanda Galas.
Oops. In that last link, I linked to page TWO of the google results. Back up one if you’re interested.
Thanks, I did do a search but didn’t find anything.
“Attack of the Giant Ants” by Blondie
Waltz In Black by The Stranglers
ACK! I’ve heard that “Highly Illogical” song by Spock–I had no idea there was a bunch more where that came from.
Was this in response to me? What did you search for?
“Wicked Annabella”, by The Kinks.
Might include The Who’s “Boris the Spider” for fun, too.
I made a mix like this for a party a few years ago. I included much of the above, but also some campy stuff like Sinatra singing “Witchcraft” and a few songs from the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.
“Spooky” would be good, too.
There are some C&W guys who do a song about Marie LeVeau that’s pretty entertaining.
I interspersed seriously scary songs with, say, the theme song from “Bewitched”, which was kind of fun.
I love Halloween parties!!
