We got NO trick-or-treaters, says my husband (I was at work). Guess some of the gang at work will get to help us. I probably should stop buying t-or-t candy, but I always fear that the year I don’t get any is the year I’ll be swarmed with adorable little mooches.
How’s your weather?
They’re calling today’s weather here the “HalloStorm” because it wreaked havoc on traffic, travel, parties, and trick-or-treating for everybody today. Some pics showing why Halloween sucked here this year. Oh! And the floating Haunted Barge at Navy Pier did a good job of sinking, plus people were saying they could feel the Pier moving - no small feat! What the barge is supposed to look like, and what it looked like today - looks like it came loose and was just pummeled. There were also reports that people could feel Navy Pier moving. For those unfamiliar with it, that’s no small feat.
Wind was howling in my kitchen windows today, it was 35F, and winds were 60mph. I’m not a small woman, and I almost lost my feet twice on the way to work! Also, had to break out the winter long coat that makes me look like a big blue sausage, plus scarf and gloves!
So yeah, no trick-or-treaters here today, either. We usually get more than you would expect at a business, but we don’t look very business-y and have a well lit porch and plenty of chocolatey candy. I overdid it on the peanut butter cups and twix.
So far, its been clear and not that cold. Only about 70. No need for kids to stay inside while the parents batten down the hatches.
But now I’m going to sneak in an anti-rant. The first ones who knocked on my door were a teenager and his little sister, I think. (I don’t know, I didn’t ask the relationship or ages). I offered the teenager some candy, even though he didn’t have a bag. I had a book in my hand and he asked me what I was reading. I told him that it was a Lovecraft tribute book and he was OMG!!! I LOVE Lovecraft. His little zombie sister got candy and he got a couple of books. I so love corrupting people
No WONDER you didn’t get any more 'treaters! You spent all your mojo on giving one of 'em BOOKS!
Total WIN!!! Plus, you still have all that candy.
I’m leaving work early. I’m chilly, have cramps, had an emotional up and down today, and I want my warm house with mashed potatoes and kitty snuggles and a movie before I have to show up for an equally draining (but in a different way) ER shift tomorrow. Bah. Sunday can’t come soon enough.
I know of at least one retailer here who times their cashiers, so if the customer is slow getting out their payment, it reflects badly on them. I have heard one of these cashiers mention that they like it when the customer uses a debit card, because as soon as they hit the ‘debit’ button that’s them finished, as they have no control over how long the equipment takes to process the transaction. So I always use my debit card when I shop there, because I don’t want them being scolded for the time it takes me to manage my end of the transaction.
Yeah, I would be tempted to never shop there because it is managed by pointy-haired idiots, but I realize we don’t always have that freedom of choice.
I started a November Rants thread.
(this is not a rant, just an announcement.)
Indeed, it’s hard to find anyplace these days that isn’t so managed.
Yeah, we had few TorTers since it was col and rainy.
My rant is about the costume I wore.
OK, i built it for Mickeys Not-so-Scary Halloween at DL. Then wore it again to work, etc.
I had grey suit pants, black shoes, a soft grey fedora, Disney studios leather jacket, a white shirt with a black tie with the Smoke Tree Ranch logo on it, and grey the perfect Walt mustache.
Three people at DL commented, and one at work. Everyone else thought it was Indiana Jones. :smack:
Shoes: Indy wore brown half-boos, Walt black dress shoes
Pants:khaki wool-twill vs gray dress
Shirt: tan vs white
Tie: None vs black
Facial hair: stubble vs mustache
Hat: brown vs grey
Jacket: both leather but mine had the old pre-DL studio logo.
sigh.
The month of November: Now with its own rants thread!
we are still happily living in the past, still on daylight savings time, just leave us be
