What’s wrong with you people? Don’t you know the Halo 3 trailer is out!??!
Damnit.
Now I have to buy an X-Box 360.
Not til 2007.
That trailer showed us nothing. I was looking forward to new features, like the way dual-weild was added in H2. Instead we got a bunch of banshees and other Covey ships flyin around, Cortana (is that her name?) talking about Master Chief’s past or something, and MC himself watching…some giant, purple laser.
Oh, I forgot to add
Ugh, plus I spelled wield wrong. Consarnit. STUPID TRAILER!
eh, kind of a let down.
And the “I know your past, your future,” etc., and the “this is the way the world ends,” am I wrong or is this a reference to the Cortanna letters they sent to the Marathon fan sites back when they were hyping the first Halo? God, I hope they aren’t meaning to make those part of the official cannon. The more I read, see, and think about it, the more it seems like they’re either going to have Cortana betray humanity or even have a full-on rehash of Marathon’s ending with Durandal’s solution. And frankly, either would suck.
I mean it, the “sentient AI defies it’s creators” thing has been so overdone that at this point it would be more original and surprising to have the AI be presented with the opportunity and make the choice, of it’s own free will, to stay loyal to us.
Similarly, I’m sick of the Flood. If Halo 3 doesn’t have them in it at all, I’d be happy. The Covenant are fun and interesting, and the idea of a civil war amongst them could be really neat. I liked the Arbiter especially. But the goddamn Flood… there are so many purely-organic, super-mutating, zombie/parasite aliens in sci-fi anymore I’m sick of it. The Aliens, the Tyrannids (from Warhammer 40k), the Zerg (Starcraft), the Bugs (Starship Troopers), the Brood (X-Men), etc. I’m kind of tired of the whole thing.
Agreed. I could go the rest of my life without trying to shotgun a group of those little buggers that jump on you and drain your shields.
What are these Cortana letters of which you speak?
Count me in among the “meh… not really impressed”-crowd.
I did love the music, but calling this a trailer is a bit of a reach.
I’m not impressed, either. I remember the big giant preview of Halo 2 on my Halo disc. It showed most of the improvements made in the second game. Better graphics: Cool. A battle rifle with a scope: Cool. Dual-wielding sub-machine guns: Cool. Jumping onto a moving ghost and knocking the Elite driver out of it: COOL!
I assume that Bungie has been cramming even more cool stuff into Halo 3. I expect a preview to show me some of this cool stuff. This just showed me that the game features the Master Chief in slightly more detailed armor, and Cortana (possibly insane and/or rampant). It’s a poster with a frame rate. It does nothing to promise me a fresh serving of Halo.
Good grief, it’s only a teaser.
I saw it first on TV and thought nice, but then I saw it on the PC and if that is what the rendering engine looks like now, 12 - 19 months from release. What with the dust clouds, the reflections in his visor, the little bushes blowing in the wind… Damn! that is going to be an expensive game. I will have to get a Xbox 360, widescreen HDTV and a copy of Halo 3.
That’s exactly how I’m seeing this too.
I’ll hold off on the 360, especially if they drop the price. All I know is that I’ll have it at least the day before Halo 3 comes out. Unless Grand Theft Auto 4 makes it out first.
Then I’ll be in a …how do you say it…“pickle”?
Saw the Fable 2 trailer last nite! so good!!
